This is based on the science fiction artwork of Peter Elson

A comparison view alongsde the original Peter Elson artwork

As slightly higher angle - look one of the towers is leaning... damn it.

I built the front after looking at several other Peter Elson pictures, it'll do.

I stole the way of sticking the two domes together from Moko's idea folder on brickshelf, but how is it attached to the patroller? Not saying.

From the front you can see the lower windows, this is where the manipulator arms are controlled from, I reckoned the drivers area was too high to see properly.

On the left side I put the letters NM for New Mars as the picture description claimed that's where it was. The last books I saw Elsons work on before he died were the Mars trilogy by Kim Stanley Robinson.

Wish I'd captured the white patterns from the original picture better.

Damn - look I'd forgotten to straighten the aerials on the front tower!

It was good to use the radar peice, I've got half a dozen of them and it's ages since one made it onto a MOC.

Funky angle... pimp my sci-fi tractor!

I still don't like the droid arms as fingers, but this is hard to make out in the original and they do seem to look a bit like this.

open - note the bling hand rails!

It comes apart for transport and to make building it easier!

The interior - I even included a toilet and bathing room, sad really.

Look beer and pizza! Do I know my rural activities or what? There are guns too!

   Mmmm.... space pizza.. SPACE!

Custom lids are all the rage on New Mars.

The original art. Far more groovy then my feeble plastic attempt. Peter Elson rocked!

This is very nice! Good job of taking from what you have from that one picture and making it. I really do like the details, arms, wheels, etc. Keep it up man!

I like the interior a lot. You did a good job of getting it to look like the picture.

*very long whistle* Wow, this is one of the most crazy-awesome MOC's I've ever seen! The detail is astounding, and it looks solid overall as well. I actually think some of the parts you couldn't see in the drawing look best in the LEGO. Such as the interior. Man I love that interior...

This rover is great! You've really captured the "retro" feel of his art. Lovely. Just because you are exploring space, doesn't mean you can't do it in style!

A very strong translation of the artwork. Great colour scheme, and I really like the shocks for those massive wheels, as well as all the little details.

This model is totally awesome--inside and out. I think I like the flat red instead of all the little logos and designs featured in the painting. I also really like models that are asymmetrical and feature unusual elements like towers and globes and antennae. One question: have you ever tried building a model based off of a John Berkey painting? That guy is the sci-fi illustration pioneer, you should check him out.

I would like to see shocks on those wheels and then some action shots of them taking the beast over rough terrain, but that's my only nitpick. A very unique vehicle, it's always refreshing to see a space creation not based on Star Wars.
