Based on original artwork by Peter Elson. Described in the TTA Handbook: Starliners, Commercial Spacetravel in 2200AD. There is a full page of information explaining the history of the company, how they started in passenger ships and moved into freight only recently, and how the ship it's overtaking is a passenger liner of the same company. However what made me choose this ship is the cool stripe and lettering and the challenge of building them!

It is micro-scale, I considered bulding it in mini-fig scale, but it would be over 400 studs long and my collection can not support that size (neither can my table!).

All the artwork in the TTA handbooks was originally done as cover art for sci-fi books. This picture was done for the cover of Trader to the Stars by Poul Anderson. A series of short stories about the 'Selling Skills League' though the main protagonist has a company called: 'Solar Spice and Liquors Company' so there are two possible explanations for the lettering.

This is from a review on Amazon: "in Anderson's universe, most people are out to make a buck, and space is dominated by merchant-adventurers who make no bones about their aim of pursuing profit. Anderson presents this as mostly a good thing, albeit not without its moral hazards. The bad guys more often than not are politicians, whom Anderson more often than not, scorns. The good guys (and gals) are merchant-adventurers who, in their pursuit of profit, encounter some pretty wild situations and get into some pretty interesting (sometimes quite funny) predicaments."

Sound like 'Firefly' to me!

Cool lettering eh? All brick built, thanks to trainheads for showing the way on brick built lettering.

I even tried to build the 'jet-trail' but I'm not sure it works very well.

   Whoosh!

I would have filled in the whole length of the ship with the small 1x1 'cheese-wedge' slopes if I could, but they aren't that common yet and I ran out!

See the pretty greebles. Partly there to look cool, mostly there to cover up the ugly join down the centre.

There's some funky changes in brick direction happening at the back here, lots of click hinges and headlight bricks!

If you can see this view: run! It's about to land on you.

On it's landing gear it's actually suprisingly stable, but it looks better on a stand!

The original art. Magnificent! I can't find the date this was first published, it's possible it pre-dates the Star Destroyer as the story was published before the first Star Wars movie and if it had this cover it may even have influenced the original model builders. It does seem likely there was some influence one way of another with this painting!

Why such a beautiful MOC is not rated 5 by everyone who's not blind ? I love the work of Peter Elson, and your MOC is as good as his picture !

Don't you know you have to pay Kieth Goldman some Credit for the Lettering? Anyway, nice job!

Man that is awesome! I love what you have done and all. You did a good job on making it look just nearly like the picture, and Im also familiar with the TTA Books (I have one of them; the Spacecraft 2000-2100 AD). Again keep it up.

Wow, it's a Saber-Scorpion's Lair star cruiser! Yeah, that's what SSL really stands for. ;-) Haha, great MOC. I love the general design of it. The accuracy to the artwork is fantastic, and the lettering is perfect. Awesome job.

Wow. This is amazing! The detailing and accuracy is great. The greebling is nice and the lettering is fantastic (and looks trickey). Great work, overall.
