Naval Battle of the Azores
The naval battle that never was... The Kriegsmarine fights the Royal Navy in the atlantic ocean
About this creation
Last year, I built the Gualdim Pais Battlecruiser. This year, I build two different fleets...

Most of the ships that you see in this battle never existed or where never finished in time to take part in the war.
In this ALTERNATE WORLD, the Kriegsmarine (German Navy) leaves the Reich.
The Germans have 14 battleships, 6 battlecruisers, 5 carriers, 30 light and heavy cruisers and 20 ocean destroyers.
In this display, I have 2 battleships, 1 battlecruiser, one heavy cruiser, one light cruiser, one carrier, one destroyer and 5 torpedo boots.

The british have 17 battleships, 3 battlecruisers, 4 carriers, 34 light and heavy cruisers and 32 ocean destroyers.
In this display, I have 2 battleships, 1 battlecruiser, 1 carrier and 1 light cruiser.

The story of the largest naval battle in the Atlantic ocean will soon come, with photoshop pictures.

Royal Navy

Battleship Warspite

Armament: 8 381mm (15") guns + 16 134mm (5,25") guns.
(This version of the ship has improved AA guns);

Light cruiser Ajax

Armament: 8 152mm (6") guns + 8 114mm (4,5") guns.

Aircraft Carrier Ark Royal

Armament: 16 134mm (5,25") guns.
(This version of the ship has improved AA guns);

Battlecruiser Hood

Armament: 8 457mm (18") guns + 8 152mm (6") guns + 14 114mm (4,5").
(This version of the ship has 8 457mm (18") instead of the 8 381mm (15")).

Battleship Prince of Wales

Armament: 12 356mm (14") guns + 16 134mm (5,25") guns;
(This version has 3 quadruple main gun turrets instead of the two quadruple and the one double).

Kriegsmarine

Battleship Aesir

Armament: 8 508mm (20") guns + 18 150mm (5,9") guns + 24 128mm (5,04").
This is the my version of the H-44 battleship.

Aircraft Carrier Graf Zeppelin

Armament: 16 150mm (5,9") guns + 12 128mm (5,04").

Battlecruiser Muller

Armament: 9 350mm (13,75") guns + 8 150mm (5,9") guns + 8 128mm (5,04").
This is an improved version of the Deutschland pocket battleship.

Other ships

From above to below, the battleship Moltke, the heavy cruiser Prinz Eugen and the large oceanic destroyer SP-1.

4 Heinkels He-118 attack the british battlecruiser Hood

And a similar group of british Fairey Swordfish attacks with torpedos the battleship Aesir.

Quoting Aranethon . Watch this. First of all, the size proportions are completely wrong. At 268 meters, the HMS Hood was the biggest warship in the British navy. Second, even if Germany was free to build its navy as it wanted, there is no way it could have reached this point by now. Thirdly, if none of the naval treaties took place Avery single one of these ship would be bigger, including the King George V class. Fourth, if that was the case the panzershciffe would never have existed. Fourth, the Warspite was significantly smaller than some of the later British ships, not the other way around.
Man…. You still don’t understand. All the ships here are based on real world designs. They aren’t the real ones. I understand what you are saying but you are wrong even so: In THIS world, Hood still is the biggest ship in the Royal Navy. I just upgraded its armament. Second: What if the Germans spent all their money building ships instead of tanks? They would have had 20 Bismarck’s, 30 Zeppelins, 50 Prinz Eugens… we will never know. But what we know is that between 1906 (launching of the Dreadnought) and the start of the First World War, the German Empire built about 15 or more battleships and many cruisers, submarines…. If it were during the Second World, they would have built way more. Third: All the ships here are bigger than the real ones. It’s just a matter of scale. This isn’t the King George V; this ship is armed with 12 356mm guns instead of 10… The Warspite had a length of 195m, while the King George V had a length of 227m. My model is smaller than the King George V. So it’s correct. And for the last, LEGO is a fantasy world. We can invent and do whatever we want. In this story I can even say that England (supported by the Japanese) has invaded Germany (supported by the US, France and the Soviet Union). It doesn’t matter; it’s an invented story

Quoting Seaman SPb Epic battle )) 5/5 And what of the ship in the background? In outline like a missile cruiser Kirov class...
It was supposed to be a two part diorama, one with the Naval Battle and the other with Ships of different years. Yes, that ship is based on the Kirov Battlecruiser. I made it in 2007 but since then, I´ve evolved a lot my construction style. I no longer use Mocpages, all my main creations are shown at my Flickr page which I invite you to visit: https://www.flickr.com/photos/einon/

And I bet you can’t ready the description explaining that this is a "what if" world with invented ships and modified designs of World War Two...

Quoting aiden thyer That is an awesome build. I think next year you should make a December 7th 1941 Pearl Harbor scene with Battleship row in detail. That would be AWESOME!
A VERY interesting idea aiden thyer. Who knows? ^^ Thanks for your comment and the idea.

Quoting Daniel Brilliant The number of ships and the detail of the ship movements is great. My family is actually from the Azores, so extra points for family interest.
Thanks Daniel. I made this project almost three years ago so I´m trying to evolve the quality. Nice to hear that your family is from Azores, I live in Portugal. ^^ Thanks again!

Quoting Alan Crisp I like the fact that the Graf Zeppelin looks to be a flat-top, rather than a true carrier. I can't remember whether the Ark Royal was a true carrier or a flat top. And it is cool that you have the Hood in this battle.
Well, you can see all the ships that I have built here: http://www.mocpages.com/moc.php/224703 And yes, I have built the Hood, and if you want me to build a modern warship, just ask me! ^^
