WARNING: PRETENTIOUS SOAP-BOX SPEECH FORTHCOMING...
About this creation
Good afternoon, Ladies, Gentlemen, and Clonies. I’m Sig-Matty, speaking to you from Matt’s incomplete light studio. I was quite pleased when I got this gig, being Matt David’s sig-fig. After all, it’s been almost a year and all he’s made until now have been those silly little tanks.
I was excited to be appointed to this place of honor, but now…now I am depressed.

You see, it would appear that from the ashes of the “epic” sharpie-clone debate, a new trend is emerging. Now I know that I am the “new guy” around these parts, but even I know something screwed up is going on here. So, allow me to step up onto my soap box for a moment…
I joined this site to see MOCs…you know…LEGO creations. I did not join a LEGO community website so I could read all about someone's fantastically interesting opinion on who-gives-a-lick.

Don’t get me wrong—I appreciate the fact that people have opinions. The reason we post MOCs is so we can share with others and get feedback on our LEGO creations. I'm talking about this new trend of posting...."MOCs"....that are ONLY intended to show the world a person's opinion. This "On this..." and "On that...." thing has got to stop. We're here to see LEGO creations-don't post something just to give us your thoughts on lord-knows-what. It's cool if you want to make a memorial, say, for Iraq war veterans, because it is your opinion that they deserve support. It is NOT COOL to post a picture of a fig and say "I believe blah blah blah." If, for some unknown reason, you want to discuss and debate about whats-a-ma-call-it here on MOCpages, do it in groups. We all have opinions, and most of us express them in the appropriate place.

Let me extrapolate: Just now, you stumbled onto this page. Judging by the fact that you are a member of MOCpages, it is reasonable to assume you have arrived here expecting to see a MOC. However, you have not been presented with a MOC.
Instead, you’re stuck listening to Sig-Matty blabber on about an opinion of his. Annoying, is it not? Just think: you could be checking out Keslo’s progress on the Eye of Chaos, or reviewing the Rusty Ferret, or….sorry, Chris, didn’t mean to leave you out,….. saying your farewell at “RIP, Dolly.” But you’re not. You’re here. Wasting your time.
To help me drive this point home, I’ve invited MOCpages’ favourite insane Englishman, Stuart Delahay, to take a quick trip across the pond, and, together, we will share some of our useless opinions with you.

MATT: Bloody good of you to swing bye, Stu, glad you’re here. Throwing all attempts at avoiding national stereotypes aside, I’ll assume you’ve come by way of a combination of velocipede, double-decker bus, and a broomstick, is that right?
STU: An ocean separates our continents, Matt. I flew into Detroit on a 747.
MATT: Right, right, at which point you tipped your top-hat to the chauffeur, paid him ten quid, and rode a flying umbrella the rest of the way to my place, right?
STU: We’re going to crush you in the Cup.
MATT: No doubt. But, Stu, all joking aside, I must say, there is definitely something different about your appearance…

STU: What, my gold tooth? Yeah, well…some jerk was giving me trouble about being a Derby County fan at the pub the other night, and we had a bit of a scuffle…
MATT: Sounds awful, but I was referring to your complexion. You look…not as pasty as usual. Radiant, almost. Have you been at the beach?
STU: Nope. It’s just next to you Michigan folk, even us Englishmen look tan.
MATT: Ah, makes sense. Well, Stu, to business, shall we? Have any completely non-LEGO-related opinions you feel like sharing with the world today?
STU: Sure, I’m game. Here goes…
On Cheese...

I think cheese is a bloody good food, but I just wish it wasn’t so fattening…
On “Bring-Your-Own-Beverage” events…

Look, if I’m taking time out of my could-be-busy schedule to come to your daughter’s open house half-way across the country, you should at least have the decency to have an open cooler…
On David Beckham...

We thought marrying a Spice Girl was the big joke, but not until he joined the LA Galaxy did we realize the true punch-line.
On Bottled Water...

PAY for water? That's like paying for air!
On Lengthy Radio Advertisements...

"Just get to the music, man!"
Well, Stu, I think we’ve made our point. Until next time, mate.

If you are laughing right now, but are somewhat agitated that you just spent your time reading an opinion instead of checking out a cool LEGO creation: congratulations, you are sane. If you are offended by this post, my guess is you should spend more time building and less time pontificating. For crying out loud, it’s LEGO. LEGO!
SIG-MATTY----------------
Because everyone else does this, and I have zero resistance to peer pressure...

-----------------------------
Well, that's enough of that rubbish. I don't want my fanboys to worry that I've ditched my war-machine builds--I'm finishing my next Mandatory Arbitration MOC as we speak. Here, I was merely trying out a new table-top light studio, and figured I'd go ahead and squeeze in an official sig-fig, as well as make a bit of a statement. A bit pretentious? Definitely. But, hey...I warned you.

Indeed. You can instruct your own course: Puns, Paronomasia, and Witticism. |

Irony... YOU'RE AN IDIOT!! Or a genius, and I'm kinda leaning towards the later... Seriously though, I love how ironic this post is... You made an opinion post about how much you hate opinion posts? lol. And, unlike the recent clon3tards post, and the displaying minifigs tutorial, I can't go around using this as a post, because it's just too Ironic to take serious... brilliant. I hope? And, as an after-thought... I totally disagree. If people (and by people I mean non-idiots) want to argue on my building style, my mini-fig hair color choice, ect., then I'm totally ok with that. After all, criticism is a great way to get better! ;)
The irony is purposeful. Seriously, I'm starting to think I need to open "Matt David's School of Satirical Comedy." Also, again, I'm not bashing criticism. In fact, had you read through the whole post, you'd see that I openly praise it and welcome it..."after all, that's one of the main reasons we post creations at all-to gain the feedback of others"....I think is what I said. What I'm against are people causing drama on the website over ridiculous topics unrelated to anything that the website is actually about. Like "women in the military", or religion, or politics.

so basically you spent this time to attack a single person on MOCpages by doing exactly what he did, but not posting anything of much worth. you did succeed in making it annoying though, if that was what you were aiming for. just because something has an opinion doesn't mean it isn't a MOC. Luc's stuff is actually MOCs, this isn't. and you tried to do what he did, and even mentioned that you did what you were not supporting, but never justified doing it when he can't.
I'm not attacking anyone. I'm attacking what you're doing right now---arguing on MOCpages. It's LEGOs. On the internet. Leave it alone. And, yes, I'm doing the exact thing that I am making fun of here--its called satire.

Nope, you're absolutely right. I'm not talking about people having opinions on MOCs (that's the whole point of posting creations-to get others' feedback) I'm talking about how people are starting to post "MOCs" that only express their opinions about some unrelated topic. Those "On Clone---" and "On Artists" posts were bad enough, but I saw one the other day that was "on women in the military." That's just insanity. I feel it's certain people trying to cause drama just to gain attention. I don't like drama. I know myself and a lot of other people use LEGO and its community as a means of escape from the drama of the every-day, so it bugs me when I see people just causing it for the heck of it. |
