Our trip started out June 11th at exactly 4PM. I left work to meet up with Amber to drive 26 hours to Illinois. We went through towns like Hooker, Texas and Cummings Iowa.....we could tell that we were rapidly approaching Chris' home. However, our first half of the trip we spent with Amber's childhood friend.
She lives near a nuclear power plant.
It spawns wooden Mushrooms!
We decided to head to the Discovery center the day prior to Brickworld. You can see that Dr. Jones (and yes that includes Lee) doesn't mind hitting on my wife.
Darth Vader knows better.
I'm currently teaching my daughters how to do the devil horns sign....along with their buddy Sponge Bob.
We woke up EARLY Thursday morning to get to Brickworld and register. I had a class with Arthur on architecture that morning. Here you can see one of Chris' company vans on the way to a job. "A quality lay guaranteed." Indeed.
We ran into Death Dog Dennis and his daughter Kelsea (I know I spelled it wrong....please correct me) in the lobby at registration and they went with us to the class. Afterward Amber and I went to Ram's (another company owned by Chris) and they delivered my sandwich with a knife in it....just in case I wanted to kill it further I suppose. Thankfully I don't have food in my teeth.
After waiting patiently all day for the magic time of 6 PM to roll around so we could start setting up, we were all bummed to find out it wasn't set up at all. The conference prior to BW had ran over. MOCpages to the rescue! Our whole crew jumped in and helped to set up the rooms. When Chris told the head dude "I have to go to work in 6 minutes." The guy said "That's 6 minutes of tables you can set-up." Classy. LMAO
Here is myself, Dave "Batman" Kaleta, and Dennis "Deathdawg" Price with his reward for helping set-up.....a brick found on the floor! HUZZAH! There were many items to be found on the floor that weekend. I apologize to whoever dropped their Brickarms minifig that I picked up. I looked around and you weren't there my friend, so finders keepers!!!
Here I am setting up.......my beer.
Here's Kelso's gorgeous SHIP!!
This was my first time in Chicago, and Amber's first time not spending her entire time in a bar in Chicago. We tried many times to do a lot of tourist stuff in between BW events. We weren't too successful. However, Amber was able to go out with her chum and head to the fountain.
I could tell that Lee was rubbing off on my wife (no pun intended; I hope) when she showed me this picture and said she took it because you could see his butt. Thanks to Lee and Chris for the influence.
Dennis hanging out before world of lights.
Amber hanging out before world of lights.
Dave Kaleta hanging out before world of lights.
George Kemper hanging out before world of lights. Now you'll notice that everyone is pretty much in sweatshirts or long sleeved shirts. This is because while it was 90 outside it was -20 inside thanks to the air conditioner running full blast 24/7. George tried to be tough when his Mom sweetly offered him her shawl, but we weren't being fooled and told him to just suck it up.....we knew he was cold like the rest of us....the little pansy!
Here is one of the final group pics.....I see a couple people missing. From left to right we have Mark Kelso, George Kemper, Lee Jones, Stacy Sterling in front of Lee, Me, Dave Sterling in front of me, Chip Philson, and Dennis Price in front of Chip.
After BW we went on to Springfield to hang out at the Lincoln Museum.
And went to his tomb.
Another unsuccessful attempt at being a tourist. We tried to get out to see the arch, but we were fed up with paying parking everywhere and just snapped shots from the car.
Chris, do you come up with all of these business names on your own?
We couldn't help but wonder WTF Harold and Kumar were thinking after eating at this dump. An American icon for crap food. Trust me. So horrible, you must try it for yourself.
And finally back home....here is a part of the Sedona range.
All-in-all we made out pretty good on our trip to Chicago.
The only thing that was free in Chicago......and I'm sure Lee and Chris already have a few copies.
Keep an eye out for Part 2, where I will post some of the fantastic builds!
HEY! that was my brick-arms! LOL jk! I was wondering if you are going to be present at brick fiesta! have you noticed that chip philson looks like that guy who plays gollum? its just creepy *GOLLUMGOLLUM* :P
I thought I'd found another free service in Chicago aside from that guide, but I just got Keith Goldman's bill in the mail today.

Wow I look good in a shawl. I should have know that you guys knew I was freezing. Next year we should bring a trash can and light a fire in it, that would keep us warm, and make us look like hobos.-George

We were so glad to have you as guests in the one-of-a-kind world called "Chicago"! Believe us when we tell you...what evidence you saw of the Phipson Empire was just the tip of the iceberg! It was a great show, a great time, and Johnny and I would brick out with you two anytime! Tell Amber we said "hi"...and we'll catch 'ya on part 2-
I couldn't agree with you more about White Castle. Yuck! I knew that your pics were ultimately going to make me ragingly jealous, I was right, and I still have 3 parts to go! Seriously though, my grin is ear to ear thinking about how much fun it must have been!~H
Nice trip report. Some good pics too. Don't listen to Dennis about White Castle. We have them here and there are better ways to get a laxative. I know some people just love those sliders but I don't include myself on that list. see ya, without a slider going down your throat. garth
