Mandalorian Minister
A powerful assault starfighter, used in combat by ancient Mandalorians millennia ago.
About this creation
Built: July, 2006

Throughout the centuries, the Mandalorians have fallen and risen dozens of times. They have helped to shape the universe; poking, prodding, and conquering. But even as their culture, society and dominance dwindled, their influence has never wavered.

During the height of their strength, the Mandalorians were indeed a force to be reckoned with. In the days of the Old Republic, they held the galaxy in a death-grip until two rogue Jedi defied the Council and rallied other like-minded Jedi to combat the Mandalorians. Together, Revan and Malak drove the Mandalorians out of Republic space, and finally defeated them in a tragic and costly victory at Malachor V. But even in defeat, the fearless Mandalorian warriors sparked a Civil War and threw the galaxy into chaos. Their reign was far from over.

But the history of the Minister is far more ancient than these more recent chronicles. Though modern Mandalorians are little more than thugs and mercenaries, the Mandalorians of ages past were an empire unto themselves. Their fortresses and shipyards dominated planets far and wide. Among their feared engines of destruction was the fearsome Minister-class assault starfighter. Certain pilots preferred to call it the R-wing.

The Mandalorians constructed their fleet of Ministers after conquering a distant and xenophobic race beyond the outer rim. Though they are not usually remembered for their scientific prowess, the ancient Mandalorians were a learned people, as well as competent warriors. Using the captured plans, they constructed legions of the the vessel for themselves, and enhanced its offensive capabilities with technology of their own.

Because of its unique shape, the R-wing was often launched from Mandalorian capital ships via individual docking clamps. Not unlike modern Imperial TIE fighters, R-wings would clamp to interior docking gantries to allow the pilot to enter. The vessel not only served as a worthy deep-space combat starfighter, but as an advance scout for surface assaults.

Unfortunately, like their builders themselves, the once glorious battle machines of the Mandalorians have long since fell into disrepair and have been forgotten. Once in a while, the remains of crashed Mandalorian fighters can be found on war-torn planets. Other than that, all records of this once proud and dedicated vessel have been swept away.

I built this ship for a certain contest at FBTB.net. The goal was to build a ship that resembled the letter 'R' from one viewpoint. I'm very pleased with what I came up with, but the results of said contest are pending.

The Slave I design has never looked better. I mean that...never. Some absolutely excellent techniques in use here. I love how you were able to include so much detail, yet did not sacrifice any playability. Excellent.

This is probably one of the most uniquely shaped ships I've seen in some time. Great design. It's one of those ships where you keep tilting your head trying to figure out what you're looking at. The colors are a great choice; really puts the cherry on top.

this is very good, good job on the R-shape but I like it most because you said it is mandalorian and the ship looks a bit like the slave I(I), I don't know if that was your intention but it certainly looks good.

This is very cool. If you watch Dr. Who, it reminds me of the guns from the episode, Family of Blood, (I'm not a nerd like that, I only know it because my sister keeps it TiVo'd).

Fantastic build, and great backstory. I love the shape of this, and the volumonous amounts of greebles are outstanding. The shape reminds me of the Slave I (but maybe that's fitting).

The way you use the letter R is similar to a lot of other entries, but it doesn't look contrived at all. Excellent construction makes it stand out from the crowd. In short, this thing is awesome.
