Castle Roof
For so long I have just used the simple, slopes/arches with beam technique for spanning large areas to create room ceilings or roofs. BUT NO LONGER! I have not seen anybody else use this so I may the first =) So here it is...
About this creation

The parts laid out, ready for assembly.

The parts assembled.

The structure, with a gap of 12 studs from side to side.

The beam fitted into the structure.

Once the beam is fitted, cover with 1 layer of standard plates. Please note, I left a 4x6 gap for a ladder to fit in.

My example ladder, no biggy.

Ta-da! The finished result. A simple, and yet cunning way to span gaps and still leave a hole for a ladder...or whatever else you may want.

I'd imagine this technique could probably be used for different size areas to.
