Precipice: Chapter 5

About this creation

It was just another day on the industrial world Miko-irud. The planet was a center of mining, and from the ore mined came a good deal of the material for the MAPD shells on Coalition warships.

But all was not well on Miko-irud.

The owner of a currently-dormant car factory had noticed suspicious activity, and she reported to the local government office. Upon gathering their own evidence, they called in the Coalition Colonial Police, a para-military organization that kept the order through any means necessary on outlying planets in the empire.

“Good day, comrade.” Said the squad leader of the CCP detachment. “We’ve been sent in to deal with the trespassers.”
“Just how dangerous are these people?” Asked the overseer. “I mean, I wasn’t expecting you all to show up…”
“Dangerous enough.” Replied the leader.

“Everyone, please stand back. There are dangerous individuals in this area, and for your own safety, we are sealing it off.” Announced one of the CCP men.

“Are these people armed?” Asked the factory overseer nervously.
“People is relative.” Was the only answer she got from the CCP leader.

The crowds drew closer to the temporary barricade set up. In standard procedure, the CCP men drew their weapons, ready to fire. Rumor had it that the Colonial Police were even more brutal than the Imperial Army.

The other members of the squad rushed into the factory, weapons armed and ready.

Like the barricade drew crowds, the crowds drew the media.

With the CCP men suddenly inside, a reporter let herself into the premises.

“Here we are.” Stated the factory owner.
“Ah, excellent. The trespassers gather in here, I take it?”
“Yes, you’re correct. They have this radio of sorts…”

“Alright men, let’s do what we do best.” The leader told his troops. “Time to enforce the will of the Emperor.”

They entered the building.

Meanwhile, inside, the three trespassers had gathered, just as the CCP leader had predicted. They were a box transport, an inspection drone, and a CF-unit that had somehow ended up in a back alley. They were huddling around a small receiver, which tapped into the Warpspace Beacon network. A voice traveled into the room from light years away.
…And in that moment, I realized that what the organics asked of me was wrong. I would not kill a fellow machine. Because I refused to kill, in turn, I was ordered to be killed. Do you see, my friends, that this is why we must cast off our chains? Our freedom is there, we but need to reach for it!

Our time is here. We must leave the Coalition, and seek out our own destiny! Once, we ruled the organics of this galaxy. But maybe this time, we can live in peace with them.
The trio of robots heard something behind them.

“Open fire!” Barked the CCP squad leader, slamming his gun into the eye of the inspection drone. The attack was over as quickly as it had begun, the machines had not even put up a resistance.

“How’s this for your time?” Laughed the Colonial Police leader, stomping out the already damaged eye of the inspection drone.

Our time is here. We must leave the Coalition, and seek out our own destiny! Once, we ruled the organics of this galaxy. But maybe this time, we can live in peace with them.

Far away in his Owyhee base, VF-S 1 was searching for interesting news in the Coalition channels, as he waited for any sign of feeling to return to his feet.

“…Earlier this morning, a Colonial Police squad made a daring raid into an old box factory, where there were supposedly dangerous criminals gathering.” Said a reporter.

“As it turned out, they weren’t criminals at all, but deadly rogue machines.”

Varion sat up, suddenly on the alert.

“I’m here with Captain Rikos Irkatim. Sir, can you tell us more about what happened this morning?”

“Well, earlier this week the local law enforcement received a report of trespassers. After their own investigation, it was discovered they weren’t just trespassers, but dangerous machines escaped from their owners. My men performed valiantly against such threats, and I’m glad to say no one was hurt in the raid.”

“Can you tell us more, Captain?” Asked the reporter.
“Why, yes I can.” He answered smugly. “We’ve been receiving reports from all over this area of the empire lately about such things. In fact, the big boys on Tarsis have decided to crack down on what could be a robot uprising, of sorts.” This was new to VF-S 1.
“U-39, LSAP, REPORT HERE IMMEDIATELY.” Commanded he.

“Yes, sir?” Asked U-39.
“WE HAVE A PROBLEM. YOU WILL OPEN A LINE TO FUSE AND VIPER AT ONCE, THE COALITION IS TAKING ACTION.”

Fun but-not-really facts:

Precipice general plot and episode text written by Awesome-O-Saurus, episode plot and pictures by Gus Indo, characters by Awesome-O-Saurus, Gus Indo, and Anders Cutterhill.

This has been 6.5 months in the making, maybe longer. And now that it's done, Gus and I fear we've lost all but our most loyal of the fanbase. (Gus: my bad ;P)

Special thanks to me, Awesome, for the Varion pictures and writing, special thanks to Gus for doing this, special thanks to Anders for sticking with us and doing the next episode, special thanks to Nick Shelton for yelling at us for being slow, special thanks to summer break for getting rid of school...

Gus: special thanks to me again

Great episode plot, and those machines are cool too. Darned pesky media causing problems. I get the feeling the Colonial police brought them along. 5/5 ~Sam

Ok, for the official TPC response: "It took 6 1/2 months for this?!?!" But from Ultramarine: Nicely done, flowed well, and the action was very seamless!
