The fighter plane from the Apogee classic 2D aerial shooter, Raptor: Call of the Shadows
About this creation
Word up !
At last a model not based on one of my little brothers (though he did make a mini-scale version of it recently) .... Well, OK not exactly my idea either. We decided together to make a big version of the plane from that ooold game Raptor: Call of the Shadows (excellent game, I played that for years when I was a kid...ah, the good old days of Apogee games)
So another joint creation, posted under my name as I built about 99% of it lol...
We have no idea what plane it actually is in the game though - the plane during gameplay looks slightly different than the one seen in cutscenes, which looks slightly different to the one on the CD cover... and on a re-release version the cover shows an F-15 eagle. Oh, and it also looks a bit different to a real F-22 Raptor... so we decided that it was impossible to make an exact copy of "the" plane and just made one that looked as much like it as we could.
Oh, and I had fun on Gimp making the main picture :)
Things to note: air intakes, missiles, landing gear (I cheated there... used two Mega Bloks parts as they were much more suitable than anything I could have made out of Lego), cockpit shape, engines.
Things to not note: just behind the cockpit, where the bumps for the engines start, it would have looked much better with two of the bits I used for the back of the cockpit, I just didn't have any more so had to make do with what I did have.
Also I've included some screenshots of the game so you can compare and see where the inspiration was drawn from.
Hope you like it :)

My youth as well. Great.
With the screenprints it shows how much the designs differ. One with the fins a top of the engines, with enough space between the engines; the othe with engines in the midst and fins ont he side...
Clear is thought that all pics have wings that run backwards more, more than your MOC...
Great subject, and great build!
How's the Cala going? Really looking forward to your progress there. |
