Appa from Avatar: The Last Airbender

I am late late late to the Avatar party, but I sure am glad I showed up.
I loved Okayaraman's Appa so much. I felt kind of bad about copying his head design, but he just did so much right. I changed a bunch of small details, though, redesigned the legs, tail, and saddle. I messed up his mouth a bit, the jaw can't close completely, but it's too much work at this point to fix it. He actually has a few teeth, but I couldn't get a good picture. I cheated on the rope and used string - sue me. Three toes on each foot was challenging. If I had to do this over I would start with the feet and scale from there, but I think it worked out. Enough words.

When I saw this MOC I discarded the idea to build Appa myself; I had nothing to contribute, yours is excellent! The head is great (though the colours are a bit off I have to say). The toes are a real clever solution to a tricky problem. Overall, I love the hinged joints on Appa's legs and tail; flexibility rules! In the end, I went ahead and built an Appa anyways... |
