A quick build as an addition to our Town layout. Inspired by the Grand Emporium and Fire Brigade.
About this creation
This building was built as an addition to our Town layout for the 2010 display season.

The building uses design cues from both the ‘Fire Brigade’ and ‘Grand Emporium’ sets and pieces are primarily from two of the ‘Fire Brigade’ sets. The interior has not been finished yet, but does feature lighting from LifeLites.

I haven’t decided exactly what kind of building this is yet, but I am thinking it might end up being an apartment building or possibly some type of dance club.

For Brickworld 2010, the top floor featured Minifigures partying together and the second floor features Crash Test Dummies doing…well…we’re not quite sure. I guess right now it's just a random building where Minifigures gather to party.

I also made sure to make the back of the building interesting this time since it is often viewable in our layout design. I like having options with where I put this on the layout by having the back finished.

I built this in about 6 hours over the course of a couple evenings. The first floor very closely follows the Grand Emporium design, while the second and third floors go off in slightly different directions.

I just have to say that I LOVE dark red bricks. Probably my favorite LEGO color to come out ever...followed closely by Dark Green. MMMM...yum.

As I said…we brought this to Brickworld 2010 and it was part of our display for World of Lights. Here we see a picture of the building lit up using the E-Lite Standard from LifeLites. Rob Hendrix was very helpful in getting us set up with the lighting and it worked very well for Brickworld.

It's hard to argue with this MOC or dark red love in general. I'm gonna have to second SoftaRae's faves of light yellow and sand blue myself, but I do see your point. I buy dark red speculatively whenever I place a BL order. I'm keen on your brickwork and the sidewalk patterns. I guess I am wondering now what a crash test dum%y party looks like.

What a tease! As I scrolled down I expected to see the minis dancing to a LEGO Band or LEGO DJ! Neat colored lights. I vote for a dance hall. After a day of shopping for food or merchandise or a hard day at the fire department and even the hotel guests deserve a place to let it loose! Disco LEGO Lives! And RED is my favorite color!!! I added you to favorite builders cause you also remembered the back - I go for detail!!!

nice work, and of course the colour is fantastic.

I think the building would benefit from the addition of a parapet wall above the cornice, but only to the street elevations. This addition would give the roof line a more pleasing balance while obscuring the roof-mounted services.

That's a lovely build, totally in keeping with the modular standard and look, but like Alex I'm flabbergasted that you churned this out in 6 hours?! How slow/ disorganised am I that I take two evenings to do a basic 12x12 vig? We bow down oh reigning MOColympic champ.

Man, this thing is as sexy as Kelso in his... wait, what? He already did that joke? DANGIT! Ok, LOVE the color and the lighting, but the detail that REALLY stood out for me (aside from the bat... nice touch) was the (backward) jumper plates you used on the front. Nicely done! ~ Chris.

A. Dark red = yumalicious B. Definitely a rave spot for figgies C. Lighting is most excellent D. It could be the secret headquarters where the crash test dummies are plotting their takeover of the fashion district. I love this Dave! Finishing out the back was a great touch and honestly, the pics don't do the whole thing justice. Glad to see you post this.

God, I love that red. It's almost as sexy as Phipson in his black leather dominatrix outfit.

I'm with you, Dave. Dark red IS the best color ever. But you forgot dark blue. My one issue there is it sometimes resembles black in photos. Nice job on this building. I'm liking the curvy areas on the first floor.
