The Miniland Zoo is now open to the public. With a total of 75 animals, this is a great day out for the whole family!

About this creation

I thought I'd build a Lego Miniland Zoo, as I don't recal ever seeing one before. I finally found a use for those lego animals, plus I had some great fun making brick-built animals. I modelled the zoo (loosely, I might add) after some of the zoos we have here.

View of the fountains through the gate at the ticket office.

Lockers, public phone and one of the ticket booths. And a man with snazzy hair.

After the ducks in the fountain, the first animals every visitor encounters are the coyotes. Only now, after I uploaded the picture, I see that the man with the camera is filming one of the least expensive bits of coyote.

Penguin town! The grey one on the left is a young penguin, and the tiny head on the right is a swimming penguin. Obviously.

I also found a great excuse to go BURP-ing again.

Don't waste your film on the ducks in the fountain, maaan!

Next stop is Monkey Island. There's a walkway going over some islands behind it, so you can look at the monkeys from every side.

I don't know if it's such a good idea to have an alligator in the water surrounding the monkeys though.

Aaaargh! What is THAT?

An bit of an overview of this bit of the zoo, with the tentacle monster put in perspective.

Clowns? Why does there have to be clowns?

Every zoo has one of these: an area with dense foliage, the sign missing, and no trace of an animal. No one's sure if there's supposed to be an animal in there, or if you're just staring under the leaves for a couple of minutes trying to find an animal that just isn't there.

Bird street. We got a falcon, several types of owls, and parrots. Macaws, to be precise.

These tall gracious birds are cranes.

Aah the snack bar. Zoo management has made sure that if you follow the route, you'll pass by this place at least twice.

The snack bar is in front of the reptile house.

"Say, would you like to come in and look at some reptiles? We got some spiders too!"

Big croc inside the reptile house.

Okay, so we got a frog, a scorpion and a bunch of spiders, none of which are reptiles. But I'm pretty sure those snakes are!

Lion's den.

Bats inside the bat cave.

The elephant enclosure.

"Come on girl, do something funny with your trunk!"

This part is called the Savanna. We have two deer, three ostriches and four zebras here. And a man to clean up all the poop.

Dashing zebras.

A man who is happy with his job...

...unlike this man, on rhino duty.

In this shot, you can see the batcave on the top right. And the outside aquarium that sticks out of the aquarium house on the bottom left.

Top of the aquarium house, with large fish sign and glass windows.

Front of the aquarium house.

Inside the aquarium house, there are several smaller tanks and one huge one.

"I believe it's your turn to clean the shark tank."
"Nu-uh!"

Stingray and several sharks.

An overview of this part of the zoo.

Well there you have it: Legoland Zoo.

Putting things in perspective.

Once again with the entrance.

Overview of the whole zoo.

"That was FUN!"
*****BONUS IMAGE******

This is a picture from a couple of months back, when I just started building. I liked the zebra on the left best, but it was not minifig scale. So he got recycled.
Hope ya liked it!

I loved it! So amazing. Old legos are the best! Todays legos are like five different pieces with one single purpose... i am 22, still want to play with my old stuff. (will one day, i promise!)
Agreed. The old ways are the best. Now go out and play with your lego, young padawan.

wow... where do you get all the animals that are in this build. oh this is amazing, i enjoyed every pic and animal display OMG this is good!!
Thank you. Where did you think I got the animals? I made them, of course!

Steef, this is amazing!!! The zebra's etc. are stunning, you did a great job on the birds, simple but recoqnisible. And almost forgot the fountain.....And all together this is one big fantastic moc, must have cost you month's of work to build it ;-)
Thank you! It took indeed about a month to complete this, on and off. But mostly off ;) I built the animals first, and then the buildings and enclosures.

Awesome! just one question, the girl at the coyote inclosure, is she in her underpants?
Do you want her to be naked?
Quoting Mister Bones
Wow, what a great zoo! Loved all the details, even poop! The use of various minifigs like clowns, divers and the ninja hiding on the roof was great as well. My favorite bit was the lion house with all the bones, even a human...hahahaha. Good thing for the rest that you are sitting out the MOC Olympics.
Thanks. I'm not happy to not be participating in the MOC Olympics. But I think it's for the best this year ;)

Oh, it's yours is it? Could you come and collect it please, because it's wreaking havoc with the guests. That is, we have more visitors coming into the zoo than coming out. Which is probably a bad thing for our records. |

I envy your skill and patience, your collection and also the space to build something so big - try that at my house and my daughter would wade through it like a 1 year-old pink Godzilla!
Thank you very much. I don't know if you can tell from the pictures, but the zoo is *exactly* as big as my lego table ;) (3x2 big ground plates). I think you owe it to your daughter to be a one year old pink Godzilla at least once. Maybe one house for her to destroy? ;)
Quoting Generation Killer
Hey Nice job it just inspired me.
That is good news! That is probably the best that I hope can happen with my MOCs, that it inspires others.

No seriously, I can really appreciate not just the time and money that has gone into this, but all the attention to detail; everything's there and everything's great !
Thank you very much. I only had to buy the ground plates for this one. Well, I bought the other lego too, of course. But not just for this MOC. Oh, and I bricklinked some fences a couple of months back, when I had the vague intention of doing something like this :)

Oh Steef, I was hoping that you not posting anything for a while meant a big project was coming and you didn't let me down! Good looking brick-built animals are a skill in themselves and here you've given us a variety - love the rhino and the cute elephant ears. On top of that it's chock full of detail, the buildings and enclosures look great and you've even given us some humour and easter-eggs (I would pay to go to any zoo with a tentacle monster and ninjas hanging around on the roofs). I envy your skill and patience, your collection and also the space to build something so big - try that at my house and my daughter would wade through it like a 1 year-old pink Godzilla! |

If you got some people to help ou (As in make this a joint project) I bet this zoo would be true minifigure scale! Right now it probably makes for a small, local zoo. Don't get me wrong, this isn't a bad M.O.C. It's massive, and I love the custome animals! P.S. the elephant is my favorite custom. |
