The Ruffian was built only from peices of the 4888 Ocean Odyssey LEGO set. It came about for two reasons, first I was going to go and stay at my parents while they were on holiday and couldn't take all of my LEGO! Second because I had seen people complaining they couldn't compete with the buying power and therefore number of bricks of some builders and that was why their MOCs where not very good. I wanted to prove that one set and imagination is all it takes (though it is a very good set)!

When The Ruffian was complete I also built the small companion robot with the pieces left over.

Built:2006
Current Status: Dissembled.

Someone said this looked like a corporate mecha to me, kind of like it was crafted by Apple. So I figure this is a corporate guard mecha.

I-Mecha. Download extra weapons at minimum cost on-line.

Big flat feet - like a duck!

Curled over tail like a scorpion!

Maybe I should have called it the Ducpian? Or the Scouck?

Curvy and smooth, like a giant I-pod with legs. The single stud join between the arms and the body were the weakest point, but were still surprisingly sturdy.

Opening cockpit, but the pilot requires a gangway of some kind to get out!

The odd little robot that assists the Ruffians patrols, I think of it a bit like a guard dog.

If it starts barking the Ruffian comes running over.

I was running seriously short of pieces at this stage.

Yep, the elastic band is used structurally, other wise the legs kept falling off.

Build your own Ruffian! All you need is set 4888 Ocean Odyssey.

   Here's the legs.

Good luck!

Nice use of tiles and other smooth bricks.

AWESOME. I too enjoy the challenge of limiting myself to a certain set and coming up with a competent MOC. I think you pulled this one off pretty well! I especially like the "Iron Giant"-inspired scorpion-tailish weapon. Very cool.
