My first locomotive in 7 wide. Let me know what you think.
About this creation
As a project I rebuilt one of my locomotives in 7 wide. Why 7 wide? Its a good compromise between the 6 and 8 wide trains (groan) of thought. The snot'd window for my original was a little to big for 6 wide. The centre brick lends itself to 7 wide. The trucks were harder to center. Pairs of jumper plates solved that issue. I think it turned out pretty good.
7 wide allows for more detail than 6 wide but still allows you to use 6 wide elements. The rear vents are SNOT'd modified 2x4 plate with grills. I haven't seen this done before.
The baseplate is 7 wide as is the cab but the roof of the cab is 8 wide thanks to some jumper plates. The railing is a standard 6 wide element, centered on the 7 wide plate with more jumper plates.
I added the triple sloped part on the nose late in the build. Its not accurate to the color scheme of the original but its not made in blue and I really like the look.
I included this photo for scale. 7 wide allows for a more bulky scale and working with the odd number of studs and having to center things like trucks and weight bricks were and interesting challenge.
Your locomotive looks faaaat man, I mean: really powerful cause bulky. I like it a lot and have to experiment on that, too. I build 7-stud-wide trucks & trailers, though. Come and check out my stuff - itīs all Town...
