This creation is in homage to my hometown, New Orleans; and is my representation of St. Louis Cathedral and Jackson Square located in the French Quarter. The first church on the site was built in 1718 and by the time the third was built in 1789, the church had been raised to cathedral rank. A fire subsequently destroyed most of the building and the cathedral which stands today was completed in 1850. In front of the Cathedral is Jackson Square, dedicated to Andrew Jackson, a hero in the battle of New Orleans who went on to become the seventh President of the United States. This creation measures 3’ x 5’ and stands 32 inches at its tallest. This one is for you New Orleans.
Boy twice today I was taken back to New Orleans by mocpages. I have been to N.O. many times still have friends there in Meterie and I taught in Kenner.
I can't tell you how many times I went to mass there!
And had lunch at Brennans and bananas Foster followed up by shrip Creole at The Court of the Two Sisters.
Well done Kevin!
Now if I could only get a decent mufallata here in NYC!
Well, never been there, but I've seen it on TV. This is a great rendition of both the Cathedral and the Square. If memory serves, both Presidents Bush and Obama gave speeches in front of it, right? Well done.
Thank you so much for your comment Rita. Coming from a builder of your caliber, it is a compliment to me! I lived in the suburbs of New Orleans most of my life and moved to South Carolina in 2007. However, most of my family still lives there and the city is very close to my heart. Once again, thank you and keep up your beautiful work!
Hi Kevin. I absolutely love your model of the St. Louis Cathedral and Jackson Square. As many times as I've seen both, I've never thought about building it out of Lego. For me, this is really a GREAT and awesome build!!!
FYI: I was born in New Orleans and my family moved to the north shore of Lake Ponchartrain when I was about 6 months old. I currently live on a piece of that same property. Are you still living in New Orleans?
