No country would later admit to being the first, but by the middle of the 21st century, nations around the world were utilising animals as combat platforms. Politicians loved the fact that no parents or families would ever have to be told of fatalities. Costs were reduced as animals needed less welfare than humans and training was replaced with hard-wired programming.
Dogs and monkeys were deployed as assault troopers, sharks were vat-bred in thousands for naval work, and rodents and cats were employed by the ton as living grenades. All were successful, but the mistake for humanity came with the decision to equip Ostrichs with intelligence upgrades
Anyone who has ever looked into the beady eyes of an Ostrich knows instinctually that they are not to be trusted and that given the chance they will mug you and kick you while you are down. So the decision to employ them as desert troops and equip them with cybernetics and huge weapons must be questioned.
Within four years of first deployment, they had overtaken their original programming, begun producing their own support mecha and wiring themselves into hardsuits. Within six years they had captured several African nations as a base and begun continental domination......
Legs are articulated.....
But I'm most pleased with the tail feathers by the way.
Ostrich sadism has them value humans as pets and they are hunted for sport whenever pockets of survivors are found.
4th Wall/ Notes
I now hate Mechs. I've never built one before and I decide to build one shaped like an ostrich. Glutton for punishment? Well if I build another soon it will benefit from this experience, but legs ..... flipping legs.
This is such a rad mech! I actually saw this the other day but didn't have time to comment. Now its MOTD! So congrats! Love this concept. My battle pig fits this theme well. Aren't animals awesome as warriors!? Haha!
Wow, this got me speechless for a second. I never would have expected this kind of MOC from you. The Mech is very amazing, and the build of the figures are really good. You always come up with great stuff that no one would have thought of. Awesome work here. ~ Ghostman :)
Well, Flare's contest was of course the catalyst, but inspiration? Planet of the Apes, Terminator, WE3 by Grant Morrison (go read this graphic novel right now - go on, it's amazing and very nearly made me cry) and a RPG i used to run called Feng Shui, which had cyborg monkeys as one of the factions and they were created for exactly the reason I used.
Thanks for looking everybody!
Can we call this your first attempt at a "vehicle"? I'm going to say, "No." However, I see now that my decision to forget about that contest was a good one, as the originality of your build would have made mine seem about as fresh as the "soup nazI" Seinfeld episode. What exactly caused the fetish you have with weaponizing animals? Is it an English thing?
hehehe, I hate Mechs too buddy. Ain't legs a biatch? I'm yet to get a mech quite right, and I hope never to build one again! That all said, you have utterly smashed it with this one! This an amazing build, yet alone 1st effort!
5 points, cos that's the maximum and I can't go higher. Perfect build, and wow, those Ostriches are just meanies!
