This MOC is just about the LEGO group and their policy against military brand sets. This is not to offend anyone. (If it could offend you, which I doubt it can)
If Lego were to make military related sets, would they be good, or bad? It depends on if they are careful or not. Lego has some policy about actual violence that is happening in our world today, for example, WAR. But, the Lego company says it is okay for fictional violence. Im not saying that is bad, but what if they made war fictional? For example, instead of putting actual US marines or Russian Spetznaz into the sets, why can't they make their own fictional military army? And instead of fighting a real enemy, why can't they fight aliens or robots or something fictional? Then, that way, it would fit under the fictional violence category. Thus, making it okay to produce sets like that.
About this creation

The sets: What would they look like? Well, why not have an ATV fighting an alien UFO or have a couple soldiers fighting a giant robot? I would find that perfectly okay. If I was a dad, and I was concerned about what my 7 year old son buys, would I really care about 2 guys in helmets fighting a giant robot mech thing? No, not really. Actually, I wouldn't mind at all.

The story line: What would it be like? I say something along the lines of alien invasion or an experiment gone wrong. Maybe an infection of some sort? Yeah, probably not an infection, but a guy can dream, right? Well, no... But anyway, it should be something pretty interesting, instead of "We went under the sea to find treasure and we were attacked by weird creatures." To some people that sounds okay, but for people like me, we need something more. Until I find out what that something is, all I can say is make it more interesting.
Cost: I think it depends on what the set is and how many pieces it has. Nothing too expensive, that would just kill the joy of buying Lego's first military related set (If Lego ever decides to make them.)
Well, you made it this far down into the MOC. So why not comment? I would love to hear your opinions on this subject. And if you feel that I missed something, then tell me, and I'll do my best to fix it. So until next time, keep on MOCing! -Cade

Remember the Atlantis sets? That's basically what you were talking about. Either way, I think that the real military should stay out of the toy industry in general. It just wouldn't be that fun to be mowing down terrorists instead of giant squids or sharks. I guess a fake military is a pretty good idea, even though it's been done if you count Star Wars sets and all that. |
|
|
well they did.....its called alien conquest.Actually,if you read the second latest brickjournal,it says lego doesn't want to make any weapons that look too much like military stuff. They said they couldn't make War fictional while real soldiers are dying in afghanistan or stuff. But they got a lot of requests from T/AFOLs for militaristic stuff so they're trying to keep the balance.Apparently, they tried with alien conquest, and space police, but I think they could go a little higher... |

Alien Invasion has humans fighting aliens, doesn't that count? How about the new Dino sets? The minifigs have guns that somewhat resemble Starwars blaster rifles but with a holder for a syringe on top (which could easily be replaced with a scope). I like the fact that there are companies like Brickarms out there to fill the void in minifig weapons! I wish they were around when I was a kid! |

The way I see it, TLG doesn't make "real" war lego brands because it may tick off other countries. For example, lets pretend that they make an Abrams tank and a Challenger tank, belonging to the U.S. and the U.K, respectively. Now what if a kid deceids to pit them against each other. If so, then other people may think that we are at war with the U.K., which would be bad. Also, even if they don't make name brand war machines, they will copy existing equipment. (TLG has already done this a lot like in that new Lego City set that contains a Chinook Helicopter). If they do that, then you are on the same path I described earlier. And if you really, really want military Legos, you have to choices: A) Buy a Brand of "clone" legos such as MB and Bestlock, or B) Build your own. Yeah. |

You make good points... Lego has a worldwide following, so it is really easy to offend someone. I am pretty sure they have thought of it though. They are mostly trying to sell sets to kids, even though there are probably just as many adults buying them too! Oh well, thats what we have MOCpages for. If Lego made all the cool stuff you see on here, It wouldn't be fun to make and post your own MOCs. Am I right? |

I don't think Lego's opposition to military sets is about the violence involved, but more about being sensitive towards those who have experienced the affects of real-life wars. |
|
|
That would be much liek Exo-Force or any futuristic war-thingy. In fact, they were on the edge with classic castle. No good guys, no bad guys, just people killing each other. About military sets: there's green army men, right? |
|
|
I agree but people spaz out about Halo and I guess that's okay and LEGO would really have to downsize that to become a series. That would be ultimately cheesy just like space police. And any wars from the end of the 1800's would not be okay because those wars are all way too violent-I say that because LEGO made Colonial, and Medieval"wars" Also Civil war/Indian wars-which I think are controversial. I think it's better that LEGO doesn't make actual military/fictional military sets. Also how would they portray it? Lose it because if you want any thing more violent than Indiana Jones or Space Police then keep dreaming. To wrap it up I'll tell you this: Make your own things-it's way better than everyone going around with not-so-realistic LEGO sets.-This was not supposed to be offensive :) |

Think about it... Most sets from Lego are for ages 6-12. Now, what if Lego produces a military battlepack similar to Star Wars, except with more violence and "real" gunz, and they price it for 14+... Won't the parents see that? Those sets won't be bought. Do you see what I mean?
I see what you mean. But what if you could only buy them off of the lego website? You know, where there is some kind of parental warning, saying something like "Only Appropriate for ages 13 and up" or something like that. Also, Im not wanting Lego to make ACTUAL military sets, but like I stated, something like human vs. Robot with real vehicles. |

"This MOC is just about the LEGO group and their policy against military brand sets" - Indiana Jones? :D - - - Okay, so my main point on making this comment on this MOC is that I really don't think this is a true MOC, as you stated "just"... I'm "just" thinking if you could make another one of these "MOCs" about the debate about how some people really dislike MOCs that are not really "MOCs" (Guess who) and are just made to make somebody's point... I wish they would make them. But yeah, they have a policy against realistic weapons and violence. If they made military sets, they should have it so that you can only order online, and there was a parental warning. Vikings pillaged, murdered, raped and robbed. Pirates pillaged, murdered, raped and robbed. Medieval soldiers pillaged, murdered, raped and robbed. I would say that Lego has been making historical violence based - AKA Military - sets for a long time. It is just politically correct to stop sometime in the 17th Century. |

In the past, Lego Company have made Exo-Force witch are humans fighting fictional characters like robots but if you were to look closly at some of the sets like Agents witch is humans fighting humans whilst using toy guns.
They have capped an age rating of under 12 years on these sets but I still think it portrays a form of violence |

It is ridonculous. The original point of lego when it was founded was that it was it no way violent, hence the policy, Now, however, we have agents with guns, toy story soldiers with guns batman, with guns....the list goes on and on. The policy has already been blown out of the water, and it's just gesture politics that they have no military sets. |

I've heard somewhere that the original creator left green out of the the sets [ :( ] to avoid going into military. I always saw starwars as a normal thing until now. There's alot of violence in the starwars episodes. They even made a set of the nasty scene when the new darth vader was getting the dead kin peeled off of him. I have it to prove it. And this MOC makes perfect sense. I agree. 4/5! ~Stay green my friends |

Hmm, I think that lego would be fine making a few sets in a war related theme, and then if that went over well, then they could start making more, and more, and more, and so on. I think they are too worried about people getting upset about lego turning "violent" or something. But isn't lego star wars violent? I mean really... How is it that much more violent, since lego doesn't show gore anyway? ~Waff |

hmm good point. lego would benefit with a new theme or idea instead on going on with stuff that obviously only a small age group would enjoy. like atlantis..... WE ALL KNOW IT IS A MYTH, RIGHT???? it they made a military theme it would open a new age group and they might FINALLY create a bunch more new pieces. |
|
|
The oficial Lego attitude might have been understandable many years ago, but with the current branding/licensing of SW and Indiana Jones (just to mention a few) contemporal-looking weapon-pieces are practically within reach, and I dont see any reason why to negate one of the most important aspects of our life, namely the armed forces. Millions of people earn their living working in one. -And they have children also... |

I can't say that I was over-joyed when Lego came out with, for all intents and purposes, a military fighter, but in Red-and-white like a carnival show. But it would put Lego in an awkward position. One, even if we blitzed them with calls, they wouldn't come out with it. They are badly politically correct with 'Renewable Energy' turbines and smartcar sets. It's against their nature. |
