World Trade Center, New York City
This model consists of 15,716 pieces.
About this creation
This model took six months to complete and is my sixth skyscraper based off of Spencer Rezkalla's original design. The towers, however, actually took me two years, off-and-on, to finally get the designs right. The base was especially difficult due to its multiple levels, overall complexity, and the diversity of colors. Because of the high piece count, this is the second- largest and most expensive permanent LEGO« model I have ever built. Completed August 25, 2010.

Completion of Complex
On Januray 15, 2011, I finished the addition of 7 WTC. Thus making my World Trade Center model complete. The entire complex consists of almost 16,000 pieces! Although, compared to Spencer's and Eric Warren's versions, I suppose I used the least amount of pieces. Go figure!

The former World Trade Center complex consisted of seven buildings built between 1968 and 1987. Groundbreaking of this super-block site took place on August 15, 1966.

One World Trade Center (top left) was completed December 23, 1970. The roof height was 1,368 ft, while the antenna reached a height of 1,727 ft. Two World Trade Center (bottom right) was completed July 19, 1971. This twin to Tower One reached 1,362 ft; six feet shorter than 1 WTC.

Situated along the east end of the complex, along Church St, are 4 WTC and 5 WTC. Both were low-rise buildings which housed things such as additional office space, an on-site mall and access to the Port Authority Transportation Hub, or PATH.

Seven WTC, built between 1983 and 1987, was the last building to be completed at the former World Trade Center site. This forty-seven floor building was clad in a red granite fašade.

Six WTC is a similarly-styled lowrise to 4 & 6 WTC.

Looking up from West St, One World Trade Center loomed overhead.

The West St entrance to 1 WTC featured an overhanging canopy.

Three WTC was a twenty-one story Marriott Hotel. It was often referred to as the Marriott World Trade Center.

The street-level entrance to 2 WTC along Liberty Street.

The Austin J. Tobin Plaza provided a large, open space at the heart of the complex. Raised above street level, this plaza featured a large fountain, a memorial to the 1993 World Trade Center Bombing and often hosted large events such as concerts.

A look at the rooftops of the Twin Towers. Though the South Tower did not boast a large radio mast, it did feature an indoor and outdoor observation deck and restaurant called Windows on the World.

Again, 5 Heads! You are absolutely outstanding (it can't get better than that) at building LEGO skyscrapers. I myself have been fascinated by the World Trade Center complex and you have recreated it as a hard working person who must have been exhausted when he placed the last brick! You should upload this to LEGO CUUSOO. If you receive 10,000 supporters, which undoubtedly you will, it gets made as a LEGO model!!

Wow this is absolutely amazing! I am dying to build this set, love the simplicity of the two towers and at the same time their complexity. I was wondering is there is anyway to get a list of pieces needed and how many of each kind of piece to make the north and south tower. Also the instuctions, my email address is pmichals11@hotmail.com I would be happy to pay, I cant seem to able to open the links to the checklist of the pieces or the instuctions you have listed. Thanks! By the way I'm from Chicago and your models are amazing, seeing that you made the Daley center is awesome, I would love to build all of them! Willis Tower is without a doubt the greatest skyscraper on the planet!

Quoting Paul McKeever III Are you going to make the Freedom Tower???? You said that you rember every part of 9/11,were you there????
My friend and fellow builder Spencer Rezkalla has the new complex covered. If I ever do the new complex based off of his work, it won't be for awhile. And no, I was not there. I live near Chicago, but I remember the whole day even though I was only in second grade.

Like usual, excellent build Rocco (you got it done on my birthday, August 25, :P) Anyway I am thinking of making a 9/11 creation, can I use a photo? (I'm then going to go to good 'ol Paul, and asking if he can photoshop it!) I miss those towers, even though I was so young when they were destroyed, I like the new tower just as much.

Quoting AH . Amazing! I've always wanted to build these. I love the WTC 5, how did you give it that angle?
Do you mean the angled part of 3 WTC? I pulled off the angle using the old black and white 4x8 wedge plates with the cut corner space at the bottom. They're the same pieces that make up the sides on 7 WTC... maybe that's what you were referring to??

Ever since 9/11 I've thought they should just rebuild them as they were, and this model really proves it. Excellent work, again. Another suggestion would be to join some architect groups. There's even a New York one: http://www.mocpages.com/group.php/406
