A while back, I received the Ferrari F1 Truck 1:55 (set 8153-1) as a present and had built it to go along with my other Ferrari memorabilia. However, after getting inspired by reading the Unofficial LEGO Builder Guide by Allan Bedford, specifically the section on scale models, I decided that I HAD to make a large scale model of SOMETHING!! Thus, the journey began on making a 4:1 scale of the 1:55 scale (1:13.75 scale?? haha) of the Ferrari F1 Racer! Also, if anyone wants the cad file or parts list, just let me know. There are 1,010 pieces that make up this model!
About this creation
First off, keep in mind that the model is a work in progress. Until I get a large table to build this on, here are some screen caps of the model on the computer.

Aside from the Unofficial LEGO Builder book, I also found inspiration in some of Sean's mega brick creations, namely these unusual bricks as well as his own Ferrari F1 race car in 6:1 scale.
I first started out building the 13 unique pieces that were required for the large scale model:

Additional Information
Since I was doing this model on a 4:1 scale, that meant that a 1x1 brick was now 4 bricks wide but 20 plates tall (6 bricks, 2 plates tall). The problem pieces were mostly the slope and curved slope pieces since in order to fit them to the correct scaled dimensions, I could only use certain sloped pieces which had predetermined dimensions from the LEGO Group and thus could not be changed.
The hardest mega piece for me was the wheel assembly and still I'm not 100% satisfied. Intrinsic in trying to capture a round object in LEGO pieses, the difficulty was also compounded by the fact that at a 4:1 scale, although large enough to be creative with forming round shapes, the scale wasn't nearly large enough to form a GOOD round shape (ie. the tires).
Another aspect that was hard in creating the wheel assembly was the fact that it had to support the weight of the entire sculpture. Mind you, these 4 tires (and really more like the area where the wheels meet the Black 2x2 plate) hold up the remaining 900+ pieces that make up this model and thus, meeting the weight requirement of those 900+ pieces may be an issue in how it is constructed currently. On the actual small scale wheel assembly piece, it had regions that were narrow and "fragile" which posed a construction challenge when trying to upscale the piece due to a lack of strength and support.
I guess we'll find out if the wheel assembly is strong enough to hold up the entire model when I go to build it!! :)
