MocOlympics R2 - 1B - Dacheronar Grahen vs Drew the Skater
About this creation
Well, my category was 'Classic Space in the 80's' against Drew the Skater. I had no idea what the 80's sets were so after a bit of googling, I went on with the Blacktron theme, which included black, yellow and neon red (and neon yellow which I didn't have), the last two being minor colors. Also I gave something to a fact, which I tell you when you scroll down.

I call this creation 'Blacktron Warrior'

Now first of all lets have a look around. The top wings are very flexible, cabable of going up and down and twist around.

I managed to go with the color scheme well, with a few flaws. There are 7 grey pieces and some amount of the blue pin/stud pieces. Otherwise it's all Blacktron wise.

You can see that there's some Slizer/Throwbot parts. I mainly scrapped Slizer Blaster for this.

The back section is a bit off-position, but perhaps it's better to call it 'poseable', which makes it a bit (a lot) harder to center.

Now the fact: Blacktron series was the predecessor of the set combining. Not the way you put things to pieces and rebuild from parts of both sets, but the ability to split sections (like a container, cockpit and such) of the sets off and put them together in different ways. So as a bit of respect to that I made this:

SPLIT OFF!

RECOMBINE! And this guy is the result. Looks a bit like ninja, eh?

This form is the main reason I call this creation Blacktron 'Warrior', obviosly.

Stabbing with the sword.

Pointing the other thing. I first intended it to be a shield, but it looks also bit like a gun.

Showing a bit poseability, including the 'hair' of the guy.

Ending with an EPIC NINJA KICK!

Drew's entry.

Notes:

I liked this challenge. At first I was a bit worried what category I would get, but gladly it was this.

This is pretty much something I've never built before. Well, I have made some poor Transformers in the past, but this is totally different.

I couldn't be without noticing, but the fighter mode looks awkwardly like Megatron's jet mode from Transformers Cybertron :P

Good luck to you Drew the Skater!

I've never seen Blacktron done this way, interesting. Dr. Jones says the best way to photograph black is against a black background (counterintuitive, I know). Good luck with the other judges.

At first I was having a problem determining what was going on with your build. Maybe it was that the details were lost in all that black....one reason I'm glad I didn't get that category. However, when you transformed him into the ninja I thought that was the coolest feature! The great poseability really takes it up a few notches. Well done! Good luck with the judges.

Both of you are getting the same comment (yes, I'm that lazy). This is a really tough call. Both of you put in excellent entries! We left the description vague to see who would take the category in a different direction and both of you did just that! I'm very impressed with both entires. In the end, my (very close call) vote went with Drew. It was the overall concept of the museum and kids visiting Lego of yesteryear that did it for me. Good luck with the other judges! ~ Chris.
