F32-D Falcon class interceptor, Terran Confederation
About this creation
The F32-D is the newest incarnation of the Confederation's Falcon class interceptor.
Design work was completed in late 2184 incorporating the latest technologies. Production is set to begin in early 2185 and delivery to the third fleet is expected later in that year.
The F32-D's armament should be familiar for those accustomed to the F32-C: two RPM SLT-370 mass drivers under the fuselage remain unchanged and the long range Vendetta laser cannons under each wing have been updated to the new MK-VII rather than the older MK-IV.
The biggest improvements are in the engine section. The secondary engine was dropped and the primary engine was replaced for the more powerful and more efficient one from the F37 Osprey. This reduces the overall weight of the craft by 23.7%.
Futher improvements to the power core and FTL system allow for longer hyperspace jumps which further increase the Falcon's operating envelope. This significantly improves the number of roles that the fighter can be deployed in allowing more of a carrier's compliment to be made up of Falcons rather than the aging F24-E Terminators.
Here we see both the newer F32-D in red next to the older F32-C in blue. The F32-D is shorter in addition to being lighter which increases its already impressive agility. It is expected that the older version will be phased out over the next five years.
Prototype trials of the F32-D have been exceedingly positive and it is hoped that they will increase the Terran Confederation's fighter superiority by a substantial degree.
