Lego Ecto 1 and custom minifigs made lovingly by Ghostbuster Fan...
About this creation
It's been a long road but my Lego Ecto is finished (nearly). As a kid, all I really played with inside at all was Lego and it will always have a special place in my heart. I still have quite a few Lego's but until this Ecto model came along I hadn't built anything original (Without some kind of guide or instructions) since I was 8 maybe?
I ran accros the Lego Digital Designer program and you can surely imagine the rest- lol. I had ALOT of fun with this project and am sad to see it end to be honest.
When I said "nearly" finished, I was referring to the black hoses that need to be painted blue and the grey binoculars on the roof rack that should be white... If I DO paint them, I want to color match the lego bricks so...
My favorite side. I just LOVE that ladder and the green tank- lol.
This Ecto 1 model's final dimensions are 30 studs long and 10 studs wide- lol. I can only imagine trying to build a Firehouse with a wide enough door to fit this beast through.
Rear detail. Probably the hardest part to replicate and without a doubt the part that makes me dislike most Lego Ecto's I've seen on the net. I decided to be subtle and really love what I've come up with here but to each his own...
The extreme angle of the front windshield is another tricky thing and I hadn't seen this technique used before. In the world of Lego model building, modifying pieces is frowned upon. Working with the pieces available and how they are able to fit together is part of the art, the 'Yin & Yang' as it were... That being said, I DID super glue some 1x1 round studs into the wheels to get the look of the wheels... (When Lego produces classic whitewall wheels I'll replace them...)
Tricky hood... This whole car is tough to be honest- lol. I ran accross some Waterslide replacement decals for the Polar Lights Ecto 1 model and used them. The Cadillac emblem on the hood is EPIC!
The roof rack lifts off to allow access to the rear seating complete with some GB gadjets and such. Four Busters total can ride: 2 in the rear and 2 in the front.
The rear hatch is removeable and there is plenty of room to store packs.
As for the Ghostbusters themselves, proton packs and wands as well as goggles were ordered from http://www.brickforge.com. Custom GB waterslide uniform decals were acquired from ebay seller, "dooandmartyj". Venkman's hair was hand sculpted by myself as was Slimer (Except for the Lego arms which were just painted and added.).
Hi, absolutely love this. Literally the coolest thing I've ever seen. Any chance of a digital designer breakdown of how to build it? Email me if so: firstname.lastname@example.org I'd love this thing in my display case.
Please give me instructions on how to build this. I realy want to make an ecto 1 on lego designer. This is the best ecto 1 I've seen (even better than the one in the film). In one word, amazing. Please tell me how to build this, please.
very good job! you can tell a lot work has gone into it.
if i may make a surjesting? your slimer is very good, but you may be able to make a slimer with one of those rock monsters, for some funky translunce neon green ghostly action!
