Minifig-scale MOC of a World War II German Stuka dive-bomber
About this creation
This is a minifig-scale (1:42) model of a German Stuka dive-bomber. The dimensions are 10" length and 13" wingspan.
In addition to being among the most notorious and feared ground-attack planes of World War II, the Stuka was also highly effective in a naval attack role. This plane will be part of a diorama at BrickCon 2010, along with the Flower Class Corvette.
This model came out reasonably well, although it suffers from the necessity of using Star Wars canopies (we simply lack the variety and number of clear bricks that I've seen some modelers use). In this model the bomb drops (after a fashion), the rear machine gun is pivotable in both dimensions, and the flaps are positionable.
Thanks for the comments! I benefitted from the fact that my son has a Forces of Valor model Stuka--this stuff is a lot easier when you have a 3D model to work from (and that's how I knew the engine was inline :) It is surprisingly hard to do a decent job of a small prop plane at true minifig scale. I guess that may dissuade people from trying it. Luckily the Stuka has enough distinctive characteristics that it seemed to come out recognizable! I agree about the clunky underside BTW... I didn't really notice until I started taking pictures, maybe I'll try to clean it up
