TAAV-R1M2 'Mastiff'
About this creation
TAAV-R1M2 ‘Mastiff’™

Lore: Lore: The TAAV (Tracked Armored Assault Vehicle) was originally an amphibious armored personnel carrier that was used extensively by the Colonies during the First Border Wars and during the early stages of the Contact War. When the Colonies united in the War for Independence many of their planetary defense forces contained hundreds of these vehicles even though the TAAV had been replaced by the smaller, faster, cheaper and more maneuverable AIT3 APC’s. Strapped for resources, the UCM began a refit program to bring many of these vehicles up to service standards and extend their viable combat life for several years. Thus the TAAV-R1M2 Mastiff was born, a servo turret with a powerful rail driver was added, and it received a power plant upgrade, modernized armor and a full NBC protection suite. The passenger compartment was stripped to make room for the 188mm ‘Samson’ magnetic rail drivers power coils and turret drivers. The Mastiff now functions as a main battle tank, and semi-stationary artillery platform. The Samson is a BLOS (Beyond Line Of Sight) magnetic rail driver and uses opposing magnetic rails to accelerate a solid mass sabot to eight times the speed of sound. The turret is also equipped with a M7-L1 16mm autocannon, this anti-infantry weapon can be operated manually from a dorsal hatch or from within the vehicle via a MDT which the cannon operator and unit commander have access to.

The Mastiff has proven surprisingly effective in many combat scenarios; the MRD has even been employed against PALADIN capital vessels when entering into low orbit. The amphibious capabilities of the original vehicle have remained and allow the Mastiff to perform in a variety of environments. The Samson cannon utilizes a electronic stabilization and targeting system that can automatically acquire and track targets using on board systems and can receive targeting data from spotter vehicles, air support, and satellite relay. The primary weapon is supplemented with an auto loader and can automatically reload the cannon after each shot from a magazine of 84 sabots. While many new main assault vehicles have been introduced in the past several years the Mastiff continues to be a successful and inexpensive unit and through continued upgrades it can remain combat effective for years to come.

Quoting El Barto ! Another exceptional piece of work! I sent you two an invite to a group about photo editing. It would be great if you posted some of your stuff, and maybe commented on how you go about creating--Thanks!
I don't recall ever getting an invite. I'd love to check it out though. You can view my gallery through the link below. http://mrbee30.deviantart.com/

Wonderful! I love the sense of weight and proportion this has. It looks heavy, as it should. Although the tank treads seem a tiny bit small. That blue light(?) on the top is great! So simple yet so smooth and effective. Great presentation of course.

Great build and a good presentation. I like the amount of detail you put in your MOCs. But the treads just seem to be a bit too small.

I'm really liking the design of this. It's a combination of brutal and sexy. My only problem though is that I can't help but feel that the treads are a bit too small.

Quoting Lee Hardwick Wow, that is amazing, Why can't they build real tanks that look like this. The enemy would never attack you if you had these bad boys coming towards you. Great pictures and detailing. 5/5
Thank you, Very much appreciated though, the enemy would never even get the chance to see "what was coming"
