The Border patrol cruiser Loki is optimised for deep space tactical deployment. Two men crew, four offensive guns, six defensive guns, anti-missile rockets, defense screens, droid support, two bunks.
About this creation
This used to be the first I built since I have picked up building LEGO again, but I kept on modfying it; adding detail, building larger, so that as you can see it here it hardly resembles the original thing.

Two types of anti-missile rockets (In days of yore, studs used to be packed connected by these redundant plastic things, to me it were rockets!)

Stern: The slim profile makes a hard target to whomever the Loki is retreating from!

Two bunks for the crew to get some shut eye while the ship flies on auto-pilot. The top bunk is stored upright to save what little space there is, it can be pulled down for a crew member to sleep under the stars.

The droid-crew: on the left the USV (unmanned sentry vehicle), hanging on the gun is the engineering droid, a scout droid lies in front, and on the right is a tactical droid.

Here is the Loki on a perilous mission; cruising the far reaches of my living room floor...

Engineering droid, docked on the starboard stern wing. With this gadget the following convesation won't take place; CO: "Go and fix the port thruster, boyo!" Grunt: "But... Do you know how cold it is out there?!" CO: "No matter, you'll be warm when you have your head stuffed in the exhaust!" Grunt: "But there's fighting out there! Blasters blasting, missiles flying..." CO: "Aagh, Belgium! I'll go and fix it myssss..." ... and as the air gets sucked out, so is the CO and the grunt.

When you see this small blip flying at you, it is not something that will send you running; it looks just a frigate!

As soon as you see this, you realise you're too late to start waving a white flag, as you're busy extinguishing fires, plugging holes, screaming "MOMMY!" and eventually dying in the cold dark vacuum of space.

Starboard quarter: note the white dish, the main defense screen emitter.

Port quarter: note the gray dish, the engine defense screen emitter.

Gurading the "bunk pod" are two Bionicle arms; one of the few bricks from kits made after '93...

The general idea was to create a not-so-symetrical ship, I don't think I have quite succeeded in this :-(

WHOOSH! Near miss with a hideous, giant, space born entity wielding a camera...

The gunner's seat: under the large transparant screen, it swings half an arc left to right; giving the gunner a wide vista over the battlefield

The human crew: guess who's the CO and who the grunt... (I love those painted trunks! we didn't have that in my days! In my days, a painted face was still radically new...)

Bow: This manoeuver very nearly destroyed my fragile MOC, but I had to capture this as well... (note to self; inform space fleet command that BPC hull integrity may be compromised when flying upside down...)

In the middle of the ship you see the docked USV, with right behind it the life-lines for when the Loki is docked, under the white pane is the lateral defense turret hidden, and behind this is the docking station of the tactical droid

Lateral defense turret: this twin gun swings a full arc (you may note that it may double as the self destruction device, when fired in the wrong position...)

Behind the middle transparant pane, the power generator is located (transparant is a loosely used term, it is so old it is nearly opaque... Bummer, I was unable to capture it on photo...)

The main targetting sensor: apart from this, all guns have their own independant sensors (Red transparent bricks in layman's terms).

The tactical droid: from its docking station in this niche in the bow of the ship, it can be dropped onto target as the Loki makes a low pass.

Pilot's seat: the Loki's agility comes mostly from the pilot's pod ability to twist and turn idependently from the main hull; it can twist a full circle and bends ninety degrees up and down.

Vertical offensive gun: it can tilt some 120° (the white part is actually an antique airplane jet engine)

The port wing: 4 different rockets with diverse purposes, however the specs on these are all classified (well the main purpose - of course - to break the symetry BEG)

Propulsion: "Space is big, really big, you won't believe how vastly, hugely, mind-boggingly big space really is. You may think it is a long way to the chemist on the corner, but that's just peanuts compared to space..." [quote H2G2] Well it's true! So one needs a lot of speed...

Starboard lateral offensive gun: these guns have a small lateral swing out

starboard view: (I really like putting bricks together in different ways than just snapping the studs together. As a result the structure keeps on "flipping"; the pilot pod is normal with the studs facing up, right behind it they face downward, to face front in the middle section, upward again for the front part of the main hull, and finally backward in the crew pod. Fun this may be, hull integrity becomes somewhat of a worry...)

Stern defense guns: No self respecting warship can go without! No one likes to be attacked from the rear!

Top view: Look closely at the pilot pod, the small white dish is its own defense screen emitter, underneath that hatch (i.e. behind the grunt) the scout droid is packed

USV: the unmanned sentry vehicle docked on the coupling between pilot and main module

USV: since not ervery angle of the Loki is covered, this droid can patrol the defense perimeter to S&D missiles. It is equiped with twin guns and its own defense screen emittersSecondly, it is another eye in the sky fro the crew.

USV: (At one night I became fed up with building the large, increasingly fragile BPC, and started to snap some bricks together in an illogical way. This little gadget came together rather splendidly, imfao)

I like this. The bunks would be great for sleeping under the stars. I like the windows. |
