Overview of OV-103 Space Shuttle Discovery's aft fuselage
About this creation
This page shows the details of OV-103 Space Shuttle Discovery's aft fuselage. The aft fuselage houses the main engines, as well as the motors and Mindstorm rotation sensors that power the payload bay doors.
Inside the aft fuselage. A set of compound gears coupled to a 9V motor are used on each set of payload doors. The rotation angle is monitored by Mindstorm rotation sensors.
On the underside of the aft compartment are two umbilical doors allowing connections for the external tank's LOX and liquid hydrogen supply to be carried to the main engines. Once the tank is discarded the doors must be closed to protect the aft compartment from reentry.
Extremely detailed, and well thought out! Its incredible work. I like how you included inner details as well as a clean, streamline exterior. That can be tough to pull off. Awesome work!
