About this creation
Well fortified and in an idealistic setting, this stone castle offers rest and protection for those in the Kingdom who can afford to get away from the hustle and bustle of life.

Ah yes, my sig figgy chatting it up with a fellow warrior. Lets get closer so we can hear a bit of the conversation. "No, the white plumes are not just for show! No no, they are not a hindrance!"

The resident landscaper giving the garden grass a little trim. Seems he is nearly done.

The elusive white ninja is slinking around again.

Well, it is what it is. I wanted to do a fortress with a large circular keep and a curved wall, and have most of it at an angle to the base, and this is what the ol hands put together. I don't know how many pieces are in it, but it is ~86 bricks high. Compared to my other castle creations, this went together very quickly. My son (he is 6) and I only spent a few weekends on it.
It is now official! My building table is too small - upgrade time! I would really have liked to have put a bit more landscaping on this, and a decent entrance with a draw bridge and a guard tower.
As always, I very much appreciate your comments and suggestions for improvement. Enjoy and thanks for stopping by!

The curve is stunning, the walls are stunning... everything is stunning. My favorite part might have to be that lovely hidden beach in the back, with the spiral staircase... wonderful. What I continue to gape at though, is your skill with angles. Truly amazing how you manage to set everything up just right.
Thank you for the very kind words and I am glad you enjoy it. It was a lot of fun to build - and not so much fun to take apart and sort.

I've seen this before, but I have no idea why I never commented. The angles are great and the entire castle has a fantastic shape and color scheme that is pleasing to the eye. I noticed those lovely stairs for the first time, they look wonderful. This castle is quite possibly my favorite one that I've seen. I think that all castle builders aspire to create something like this. |

wow... this is definitely impressive. I think that one castle has more bricks in it than my entire LEGO collection, especially amazing seeing as I've never met anyone with a bigger LEGO collection. what's more is that all my castles are rainbow-colored due to a lack of grey bricks. anyway, that's absolutely amazing. you can be sure I'll be experimenting for months on LDD trying to figure out those curved walls. |

Really cool castle! Good job on the seemless fit despite the angled and curved walls! Have to ask though; how did they all get up to the roof? And was the steering wheel for lifting the unbuild draw bridge? Nice find on the sitting frocked ladies in the courtyard. This MOC booms with pleasant little details! Have fun!
Thanks! Minifigs seem to have their own mysterious ways of getting onto roofs. The wheel is to raise the portcullis. Keep MOCing! |

This is beautiful! i'm commenting again to ask, how did you go about planning this! i'm an aspiring tfol and i really am curious how you planned and designed this!!
So I kick ideas around in my head a bit, then sit down with some engineering paper (graph paper) and do a floor plan to cement in my mind locations and proportions. I worked out the angle-offset system on a 32 x 32 base plate for reference. Specific features or complicated areas I will sketch on graph paper just because it is faster.
For me these big castles evolve as I go - I redid several portions because what I thought would look nice was actually a terrible idea. Personally, I like having creative freedom with castles so I keep my plans and prep to a minimum. I'm sure everyone is different - happy MOCing. |

I'd recommend a better camera in that case. I had the same problem when I had the Canon S4IS. However, with the S95 or with a DSLR, you can shoot in lower light conditions and get much better pictures. I also ended up getting a tripod which helped increase exposure times without blur - which if you set with manual aperature you can maximize your cameras ability. When I do pictures, I dont use any drop-cloths. Just photoshop afterwards. This is a bit of a chore, so most people just buy poster boards. Obviously a giant build like this one and the ones I typically do are much bigger than a posterboard. I'm currently working on a photography based build, so the topic is on my mind and is probably why i'm bringing this up on this one.
I look forward to your post! I think you perceive the heart of the problem, I'm using a cannon point and shoot, not a high quality camera. |

I'd recommend a better camera in that case. I had the same problem when I had the Canon S4IS. Excellent castle. Loads of great things going on and originality. I think you are doing yourself a dis-service by using a flash and not taking the time to make the presentation at par as the quality of the build. while it takes a few minutes more, you will have a better recollection of the build in a year. BTW, you forgot to put in a waterfall.
Thanks Eggy - I do appreciate your comments! Waterfall....hmm....yea, hopefully next time around. I agree that the trickling spring isn't a waterfall.
I think when I have a little more space I will be able to create some kind of light box sheet thingy for better photos. For these I had 3 lamps on and the 'flash' effect would be the afternoon sun from the window. I will definitely try and improve on the photos for the next one. |

And I dont consider the 1 brick wide trickling stream as a waterfall! needs to be at least 8 wide to count. |

This MOC is a labor of love! Gorgeous! The castle's walls seamlessly blend with the rock work. And there are just too many other details to admire. Lastly, diggin' the ninja with aquamarine katanas (which set are they from?)! XD
So...you like my Jade Katanas eh? So do I! Bricklink calls the color dark turquoise, and they only come in this odd set called Swamp, #8509. I don't have the set; I think I payed 50 cents for both of them. :) |

Very impressive, this might sound odd but the most interesting detail I think is the grass on the rock in the first picture (not including main) I really like how you did that, great job |

Epic! awesome! incredible! i want one. no castle is without a dungueon thou!
if you wanted to, you could easily add a underwater world to it
Thanks Sith Sera. Actually there is a dungeon under the whole thing, one of the pics shows a prisoner being led out. Adding an underwater portion to a castle is on my list of things to do tho! |

I really like the way you did the curved wall. It's simple but I had never thought about using the 1x4 hinges that way. Usually, I used them to create the more commonly see octogonal tower. |

Beautiful. Just beautiful and simply epic. This is certainly one of the best castle Mocs I have ever seen. The rounded tower is glorious, the rocks are amazing, and it's loaded with details. Now I know what it is to want. |

My - oh - my. so much to comment on. All i can say at first is wow. The resources that castle-builders usually have at their hands usually astounds me, but this is no mere bile of bricks. There are a few subtle and not-so-subtle techniques I'd like to comment on. Firstly, I'm liking the use of off-angle walls. Secondly, the rounded towers are done very nicely with the (i assume) 1 x 4 hinges. i also like the overall openness of the courtyard and the castle overall. The addition of the white ninja made me chuckle.
One bit of positive criticism i have for you is that the positioning of the archer wall may want to be adjusted. it just seems odd to me at least that archers would face the ocean. Still though, an awesome MOC and great castle, very compact, many details in a (relatively) small package.
