"Experimental 0-6-6-0 articulated locomotive, produced to the design of the innovative engineer Oliver Bulleid"
About this creation
"The Southern Railway’s Leader Class was a class of experimental 0-6-6-0 articulated locomotives, produced to the design of the innovative engineer Oliver Bulleid. Five were ordered but only three, numbers 36001-3, were put into construction, appearing after nationalisation in 1948. Only the first locomotive was steamed" (Wikipedia).
The model is built in seven wide. It is 38 studs long and roughly 12 studs high. Articulated 2-4 + 2-4, it can take turns, switches, and of course, everything in between.
Due to various offsets required in the making of the doors, and to SNOT required in the making of the rear and front cabs, there is no interior.
I debated between using BBB wheels and standard sized train wheels for the bogies: BBB wheels are a tad bit too big, and the standard train wheels are a tad bit too small. 7750 wheels are the right size, but they are red. Having eventually built with standard sized train wheels, the entire model tends to be slightly skewed as to vertical scale.
The Lego 'Leader' is amazing! By complete coincidence I bought Kevin Robertson's book on this fascinating subject only yesterday and am currently reading it!
