Hotel and Residences
My first attempt at a "realistic" modern city block of buildings. These are a pair of residences and the Hot-3J Hotel.
About this creation
A small slice of a modern city, and part of Gotham for my lego Batman minifigs when I build enough other structures to flesh out the city. In addition to being a first try at a realistic modern city, it's my second try at making a set that has scattered modular interiors that can be removed or exposed. In this case they are a hotel room on the second floor and the fully furnished hotel penthouse, where a scene from an action thriller looks like it is about to take place.

Best shot of the HOTEL sign, the first thing I designed for this set. I thought it had a nice exaggerated look to it. Does anyone think this text style qualifies as "Art-Deco"?

Front shot of the buildings, the hotel, the lime green row house, and the blue building.

Side of the hotel, where you can see the hotel's name, Hot-3J, on the sign. How's that for getting out of the problem of only being able to read HOTEL from one side?

   Front shot of the buildings.

Shot of the roofs, which I admit are very plain. Any suggestions for what to put on them are very appreciated.

Rear shot of the buildings. As you can see, I built them around the adventurer's Chinese fortress baseplate, which I thought would be an interesting challenge.

Another roof shot, sign somewhat visible

Overhead shot of the alley with trashcans and dumpster. Note that the back wall of the building here has a "worn" texture.

Side shot of the buildings. You can see the blue building's garden and the hotel fire escape here.

Another side shot. You can see the outline of the removable hotel room module here.

Close-up of the dumpster in the alley and the ladder leading down from the fire-escape one level up on the baseplate.

   Close-up of the garden.

   Close-up of the fire-escape

More dramatic shot of the fire-escape

This is the removable hotel room module, complete with tenant, safe, bed, TV, and remote control.

   Another shot of the room.

Tenant watching the popular sci-fi show "SPACE POLICE".

What the hotel looks like minus the module.

Now we're looking in on the penthouse of the Hot-3J Hotel. Baldman is hiding in the bathroom from the plainclothes cop who has tracked him down here.

More dramatic shot of Baldman in the bathroom.

Clearer shot of the tense moment in the penthouse.

And another shot for good measure.

Naturally the kitchen and the bedroom should be the same room, right?

Overhead shot of the kitchenette/bedroom in the hotel penthouse.

Long shot of the room. Next to the fridge is an a security system. It detects anyone coming in through the fire-escape, which very well may have happened before the scene now taking place.

Overhead shot of the bathroom and livingroom scene, taking place at the top floor of the hotel.

Shot of the living room. Yes, "SPACE POLICE" is a very popular show.

Another shot of the living room that looks down through the hall and into the kitchen/bedroom.

The detail of this model is simply amazing. The hotel sign trick is also very creative. I give it a five, because the only problem I see is that some of the pictures are washed out (nothing to do with the model).

Very nice job! I like the dumster detail in the back. I would suggest a rooftop garden on the rowhouse and a maybe a pool on the hotel.

Oh this is great! I think I might try doing that with my base plates like that! You could try to put an air duct or vents in the roof.

Very nice! You should put some electrical thing on the roof, like antenna, sat dishes, Fire escapes (hotel), chimneys, Air con units anything really.
