MocOlympics Round 5 Dave Kaleta vs Sebeus I
"Rouge City. Across the Delaware. Too far for our feet. We'll need help to get there. And it's not without peril. We will have to journey towards the moon."
About this creation
Built for the 2010 MocOlympics

Category: "Cyberpunk" Suburban high-tech in science fiction is not a recent concept. Look it over!

My opponent's entry: Sebeus I

Bridge to Rouge City

On his quest to find the Blue Fairy, David, with his companion Gigalo Joe, journey to Rouge City.

Creator's Notes:

Cyberpunk is certainly a challenging category. I was reminded of the Kubrick/Spielberg film A.I. Artificial Intelligence. The film's themes deal with self-actualization, mortality and the essence of humanity. The image of the human form allowing entrance to a pleasure city was immediately striking and memorable. I chose it for my build because it mirrored the ideas of combining man and machine that were central to the film as well as my category.

This creation allowed me to attempt several new and difficult things (some more successful than others); integrating lighting, sculpting at human scale, cantilevers and forced perspective.

The creativity here is unmatched. The design is well-thought-out and it has that slightly disturbing effect that you rarely find in LEGO builds. Wow! What a MOC.

Hmmm, thought my comment on this was one of the first - dreaming, or a virus in my wetware? More likely moderation! Still, I can belatedly praise this and congratulate you on the win. A stunner of a sculptural piece from an unusual source (didn't occur to me when suggesting cyberpunk ideas, but AI is a totally Cyberpunk movie). Great engineering in here to make that cantiever and the internal lighting too. Love that first shot too. Well done sir.

This is brilliant Mr. K. I love the abstract nature of it. Creepy yet somehow beautiful. I also love the lighting effect in the tunnel. I'd be interested to talk with you about that offline.

Off-the-wall abstract, mouth-plunging action! Huh? Oh ... Totally weird but exactly capturing the essence of cyberpunk! The build is exceptional and the idea is mind-blowing! Like getting imbibed to nirvana and never coming back!

Certainly the better build overall. Your competitor's vehicles were better, but you smoked it overall. You have my vote - and the win. Lee.

Wow... The build is fantastic, but the presentation is amazing! And you lit up the tunnel, to boot! However, it just doesn't give a super cyberpunk feel. It'll be a toss-up between you and Sebeus!

My thoughts are along the same line as Phipson's. That tunnel is DEEP!!! ;) An absolutely gorgeous build here Dave! I love the interior lighting the best.....it just came out so perfect, and completes the whole build. I'm not entirely sure what Cyberpunk is, but I love your interpretation of it!

Quoting Ethan M. That is totally wild, but a very interesting concept. Where was the forced perspective that you referenced?
The main picture, the figures are at a different scale than the rest of the build.

You've got my vote. Your concept is well done -- the inherent symbolism of man being swallowed by technoloy is what sends this over the top.

WOW! When I think of Cyberpunk, I think "Blade Runner", dark, rundown, bleak but THIS is juat amazing! The idea of combining a humanoid/alien head with a sculpted bridge design is brilliant and I LOVE the lighting in the tunnel.

On a scale of One to Awesome, you have received a Holy Heavens! That is an amazing build Mr. Kaleta. It took me some time, but once I realized the tunnel was a head, my jaw dropped to the floor. Your my favorite to win it all, and I'm still in the competition. Ha.
