Aquanauts Explorer
Mobile underwater base in the Aquazone
About this creation
1995 . . .
The Aquazone, a theme where high tech submarines explore the (deep)seabottom,
there are the aquanauts who collect valuable crystals, gather them in orange boxes, their ships are big and have a large canopy to provide a great view on the seabottom.
But there are also the aquasharks, their ships are sleek and sharp and are used for assault rather than exploring, they are the enemy of the aquanauts...

catalog pictures found on Peeron.com (here)

As a child I loved this theme, I only have a few sets though and unfortunatly not enough to provide my sub with a claw- and magnet arm (I only have 2 very short arms, combined I could make a decent one but just one)

As you might notice I also used parts from the Diver series, those submarine parts make a perfect fit with the aquanauts' canopy.
My first idea was to make the model displayed on the round aquanaut tile (in my design you can see the tile on the fins)

(the background image was found here)

I would apologize for poor video quality but you know, it is pretty dark and woozy underwater :p

The cockpit, suited for two minifigs.

The submarine functions as a mobile base, on both sides there's a hatch that forms steps when opened,
this also explains the odd landing gear (I know it's cheap)

Notice the curved belly near the rear

Parts combination on the engines worked well I think,
this is what I like so much about LegoŽ, how old and newer pieces can go so well together

I hope you liked it.

I decided to come out of the dark corner I got in when I lost that round in the Mocolympics,
btw, the movie on this page takes you to the ruins of my last entry

This may be old but I still love it, because it's so reminiscent of the aquanauts era, with the yellow colour and incredible canopy pieces. I really like it, because it spikes in me a feeling of sweet nostalgia.

It really is beautiful, I really like the cockpit. During the video, I was half-expecting something to jump out at me and make a loud scream or something like that!

Quoting cyberfrank 2010 wow!,a great sub design!,it eclipses atlantis in a glimpse, the only thing that keeps me from giving a perfect score is the fact that it s not sealed,a rear window seams to be missing,it permits water to get in!,i can t believe you let this one slip up!,otherwise, this is my dream sub!,some front arms, would make it almost ultimate!!!,i think this is a gem in the making, some more investment would make this unreachable and truly unique!,as your parts are as beautiful as they are rare!absolutely adore your eye for stylishly designed creations! and thanks a lot for your most appreciated comments and support!
yeah, the rear isn't really finished, I love rare parts :p

Quoting Jeffrey Kamst i wanna build a high tech sub to but i dont have the aqaunauts parts or any of those sets can u help me out?
well, for a high tech sub you don't actually need aquanauts parts, technically a closed vehicle with some computers will do, besides that it's just a matter of detailing and greebling

Expert throw back to the quaint and fun time of the 90s Lego themes. Love it. I've got lots of sets from the 90s, was a funky time. What a random video, the music made my cat howl! That was the ruins of your last MOC O entry you say? Neat idea!
