This is from an old show from the 70's called Space 1999. Its about the how the moon gets blasted off into space because of a nuclear waste explosion. This ship is the main form of transportation. There are many different types of eagles but this one is based on the medical and reasearch class eagle. The above picture is the full ship.
The picture below is a side veiw and you can see the sliding doors. The top of the ship was my crazy of idea of all the pipes, electrical, and important funstions of the ship is supposed to look like. Further down is a more detailed picture of the engines and the cockpit. I built the model in three and a half parts. The first was the cockpit followed by the second and a half was the main cabin and (the half) landing gear, and the third being the engines.
Here is a closer view of the top. It is built to come off in one piece. I had a lot of fun throwing pieces on there while still making it look somewhat "eaglish".
The engines were unique to the design because of the vital function it has for the ship. It can clearly be seen that I used minimal amount of pieces and used the wheels as the burner chamber.
Here is an inside view of the cabin. It holds 6 computers, and 8 minifigs. The thickness of the middle section was because of the sliding doors. This is an accurate scale of the inside so there is plenty of space for the minifigs to move around in.
These next three images of the same part... The Cockpit. It is just a front view but it shows the main thickness of the craft. You can see the langing gear legs on both of the sides and those alone took me a few hours to figure out until I remembered that the landing gear does not retract.
This the cockpit without the mainscreen. I don't have a picture of the inside but please note to all those Space 1999 fans that the seats to move and the legs of the minfigs do slide underneath the computer dashboard.
The mainscreen was the hardest part of the whole ship. It took me seven (7) hours to correctly place it so that it did look accurate. But, of course the color is off but I can't be perfect.
Over all this model took a total of 15 hours to build and ranged at about 650 pieces. This is Moon Base Alpha out.
