Ice Hotel
Somewhere North of the Arctic Circle in Sweden is an extraordinary and beautiful thing.
About this creation

In a village called Jukkasjarvi, Sweden is the original Ice Hotel. As the name suggests, it is made entirely of compacted snow and ice with some steel framing to support it. The whole structure melts every summer and is rebuilt with around 10,000 tons of ice from a nearby frozen river every winter.

This one appears to be staffed entirely by vintage spacemen..

Inside, the furniture is all carved from ice (or old trans bricks, whichever's easier..)
including the tables and chairs in the restaurant.

The well-stocked bar is also made from.. you guessed it. Any hot drinks ?

A view of the whole interior. The Snotted floor is compacted snow. That chef may as well have a beer; any cooking would melt the kitchen.

The beds are.. well I think you're getting it now.. cold.

Any ice hotel worth it's salt (there's a joke in there somewhere..) has it's leisure facility. Here the M-tron spaceman and the pirate enjoy the noble sport of curling on the hotel's outdoor rink.

A view of the roof structure. Any excuse for a bit of technicing.. The lights came from an old 12V train set I recently dug out - delighted that they still work!

A view of the whole thing with the lights out. Has that guy on the path frozen to death ?

There are other ice hotels now in Canada, Norway and Finland but this was the first.

Quoting Alex Mac At least they don't have to pre-chill the drinks, and they'll never run out of water. Really awesome job! The slope of the roof on the outside looks really cool, very-natural. Was this inspired by the one in....I think Sweden?
Yes. Glad you liked it :-)

Hey Nick, I'm wondering if I can bother you for a favor. I'm considering your technic roof support for a project. I'm wondering if you can add a close up where one of the mild angles is achieved, and/or just a pic of the separated key parts layed out on a piece of paper. Thanks for any help you can provide. Tom.

"Cool" building. I'm impressed by the roof, the way you build it. With that technique many other things seem to be possible.

Great classic LEGO...especially the 12V lighting! And isn't it perfect? A cocktail bar where there's always as much ice as you desire! Ciao, Jens

Cool. Is the joke that water is colder when it has salt in it because it lowers the water's melting point?

Quoting Tom Simon Hey now. That almost sounds like the talk of a man trying to back track to that comfort zone. I think you should spend more time outside it, if you can obtain results like these. (Except you still "owe" me that popping hood.)
Yep, I reckon I'll do more strange stuff - maybe a popping hood on a spaceship :-)

Quoting Thoy Bradley Hey Nick, thought I might add to your list. There is an Ice Pub in Queenstown NZ. Funny you talking about those old style lights, they were the first type of Lego light I ever had - used to use them as a torch to read after bedtime... That was some 15 years ago now. Nice build :) ~Thoy
Haha! I used to do the same.. I didn't know about that ice pub. Thanks, and thanks everyone for the kind comments.

Quoting Tom Simon Cough, cough, ... Who are you, and what have you done with Nick? This is well beyond asking where the snowmobile is. You know, the one with 5 speed transmission. Your all car and truck image will never be recovered after this. Superbly done. A delight to view. (And by the way, why the one two punch today? Have you been saving these up?)
Well this has been built for a while but I was waiting for a transformer to power the lights (couldn't find my old one). I'm glad you liked it, I had fun doing something out of my comfort zone... dang! why didn't I think of a snowmobile ;-)
