My favorite (or favourite if you prefer) band, Los Campesinos! played at the Blue Moose Tap House in Iowa City on October 27th, 2010. I'd seen them before in Chicago, but I didn't want to miss them on this tour. I thought I'd share a little of my art with them, and though it's not much of a build, it was really fun. I combed the interwebs for reference imagery and the "group" photo you see was my initial attempt. I never actually got a chance to photograph the final product, but I'll be making another set for myself (Bricklink here I come!). I made a few changes to Gareth and Jason's figures as well as expanding the drumkit. The guitars, violin and drumsticks are Brickforge. I must say, making likenesses of real people was very stressful, but they seemed to really like how they turned out.
A few words about the band...
I honestly must say that they are eight of the most pleasant, kind and generous people I've ever met. It was wonderful meeting them and I look forward to seeing them again soon.
Oh, and they make incredible music and are a superior live performance. Los Campesinos! site
They graciously agreed to pose with their likenesses; many tried to mimic their Lego counterpart's facial expression.
(I promise he was more excited than his facial expression would indicate. Also, he won an old Lego Castle set when he was a lad through a coloring contest.)
(performed admirably on Tweexcore, thought you should know)
("he's so emo", according to his band mates. Also, thnx for the Blue Moon!)
(signs his name with a heart, and suggests awkward photo poses)
(said Lego was his favorite childhood toy)
(is a huge comic fan, tried to talk her into reading some Batman)
(will be displaying her figure on her Ikea bookshelf)
(creates zines and drew a Lego man on my signed album)
This is Kellie, who is part of a 4 person tour team. She's a painter, and also a wonderful person.
Though my British vernacular is limited, I now understand that this is a "King's Chair".
Thats such a fun idea! Its great how you got to meet them and give them their little figures! I've never heard of this band before, and the comments all say that there is a song embedded but I can't hear it... will google them and see what I can find, they look like really nice people.
