Here I present you my creation – infamous pirate flagship „Catalina Hermosa“ (Handsome Catalina). I combined the elements of four of my favourite ship types: east indianman, fluyt, ship of the line and galleon. This beauty was launched in 1685., originally named „Lucero del Alba“ (Morning star), first as a warship of spanish armada, but she was severely damaged when in 1697. she caught fire. After restoration, she was transformed into merchant ship, and was anchored in Cartaghena in Colombia. In 1701., 500 spanish pirates led by capitain Villanueva attacked the city and took the ship as a prize. Capitain Villanueva renamed her „Catalina Hermosa“ after his favourite mistress, and she beacme the flagship of his fleet. Ship originally had only one gun deck, but pirates added extra cannons on the main and upper deck.
