I had an idea for a LAAT gunship that I wanted to create. My criteria was: 1) side-by-side cockpit above a thinner section of the body; 2) a front gunner in a bubble cockpit with a cage around it; 3) sliding doors; 4) a rear gunner; 5) one main engine on top of the craft with a split tail behind it; 6) curved ends at the wing.
About this creation
Overall, I was pretty pleased with how it came out, albeit not exactly how it was in my mind. One problem I had was finding a way to build one giant oval-shaped engine on the roof. I decided to settle for twin engines, but they didn't look big/strong enough for the size of the gunship, so I added 2 under the wings.
I also didn't like that I had to use a lime-yellow bubble for the front cockpit, but what can you do?
I like the asymmetrical design. One side has a bigger door for the main unloading point, while the other side would face the enemies in a hot LZ since it has a gunner.
The rear gunner's seat is suspended from the ceiling, not mounted on the floor of the ship. It was a little design addition, that I was pretty happy with.
At the cockpit there are overhead levers for controlling the thrust of the engines, you can see it in one of the photos. I got this idea from an old TV show featuring an amphibious plane.
I wanted this ship to look like an older gunship, one that the Republic had since abandoned use of except in lesser developed worlds, where newer gunships were too expensive and less common.
