About this creation
***Thank you all for making this such a hit! It really means something to have my work critiqued & praised by other people who understand the creativity and dedication that this artform requires. There aren't enough hours in the day for me to check out all of your builds, so I really appreciate you checking out mine! Many thanks!!***
This was pretty easy to convert to the movie version, I kind of made it my own, it's not 100% movie accurate, but I feel that it gives off the right vibe. I just watched the film the other night, and I cannot say how much I love that movie. Back to the Future is my favorite movie of all time, and I am proud to build this tribute to it.
http://www.youtube.com/user/welcometojenkins#p/u/6/zuTB7tzMr8M

This is a tribute to the first film, so there are no folding wheels or "Mr. Fusion" accessories.
(And yes, that is a little bit of a cop out. Getting the wheels to fold down is hard!)

I built 95 percent of this with bricks I already had from my childhood. I had to buy some new grey pieces because the ones I had were fading and discolored. Also, I had to buy those hose pieces for the sides. Total cost was about 15 bucks. (Not including the hundreds of bricks I already had from my collection.)

The vehicle weighs 2.11 pounds. I have NO IDEA how many pieces are there, but I'm sure it's well over a thousand.

I first built the DeLorean as a regular car, which can be seen as the other build in this folder.

The original build (When I made the car itself) took me about a week and a half. I referenced a toy BTTF DeLorean I have to keep the scale accurate. I had to rip the entire thing apart at one point just to make the doors a single stud longer. WORTH IT!

Rebuilding the regular car into the movie car took about another week, as I keep tweeking little things every day.

I just remade the interior... to be more like the movie. I packed in more "wires" ... the "date & time input computer" ... time circuit knob and of course, the flux capacitor.

The unmodified car...

The heavily modified car...

As you can see it is the same scale as my yellow 16-wide jeep wrangler TJ. These 2 MOCs may very well be my best work.

Simple and fantastic, and simply fantastic. I love all the additions you've made since the first post. I know what you mean about scale. I deal with that issue a lot when I build Transformers, particularly my most recent. It takes a lot of guts to tear down and rebuild, so nice job with that. Great Delorean. Really enjoyable to view. |

THANK YOU ALL FOR THE NICE COMMENTS!!
One thing to clarify: This model is based off the vehicle's first appearance in the first movie. I did not add the "Mr Fusion" part because I love the first movie far more than the second two.
Since I was a little kid, I've always loved building with legos and I've always adored the Back to the Future movies. It feels like this build is something I've been working toward my whole life. It's like it's my density... I mean, my destiny. |

Most people think that there won't be any 2015 because of a global cataclysim that will apparently happen in 2012.....Firstly, if this is so, then why aren't we investing in the space program? and secondly, I might have a job keeping people's stuffm because they 'won't use it when they're dead'. Then, when the 2012 cr@p is proved to be cr@p, I will keep all of the worldly posessions they rightfully gave me. XD |

Ohh yeah, this is great. Looks very similar to the " real " one from the movies. It's overall details and specially the rims on the tires are very good. You even installed interior, and found a way to open the dorrs correct. A while ago I watched a tv program from the creators behind the DeLorean and how they came up with the idea and the bankrupt they fell into. It was an affordable car and was the enemy to the rich 80' men driving Porsche. The comfort was bad and the interior are better executed in your model than the real thing. I would like to see you create the Lamborgini Countach. Great job indeed:-) |
