The Hippotoxotis is a cavalry tank, designed for high speed on varied terrain. Its antigravity propulsion keeps it a comfortable distance above the surface of a planet, while its armament is sufficiently powerful to threaten even the enemy's heaviest armor.
About this creation
Armed with a large main gun capable of defeating even SHIP-based defenses, as well as a pair of anti-infantry/light vehicle sponsons, the Hippotoxotis has a lethal combination of speed and firepower.
The turret can traverse a full 360-degrees freely, and its auto-stabilized main gun makes it deadly accurate even on the move.
The only access point is the hatch on the turret. This is a mixed blessing, as it means that the hull is more solidly built than on some other armored vehicles, and there are fewer weak points for enemy infantry to exploit when swarming the tank, but it also limits the crew's ability to bail out in the event of a catastrophic hit.
The Hippotoxotis can be disassembled into three main components: the base, the hull, and the turret. This allows for easier transport and repair, and keeps the overall weight down, further enhancing its speed and maneuverability,
This was an experiment in SNOT construction, and the turret was something of a proof-of-concept for me (the turret design, specifically the method of mounting it in the circular hull socket, took some experimentation; you can see the result on IC117). The sponsons were something of an afterthought, and the design in the pictures is limited to a 90-degree firing arc (from parallel with the hull to perpendicular, and utterly incapable of firing backward at all).
