Thrust SSC 1000 (mk II)
Supersonic car inspired by the Thrust SSC
About this creation
Built for the 2010 ESRC (Earth Speed Record Contest)
Category : imaginary car

Because the Bloodhound project failed in 2011 in breaking the 1000 mph barrier by lack of power, the Richard Noble team who achieved in 1997 and 2011 to break the sound barrier on land decided to build an improved version of the 1997 Thrust SSC vehicle.
It's designed to reach the tremendous speed of 1000 mph on land! It's basically a jetplane without wings and motorized by 2 new Eurojet EJ201 turbofan engines and a 12 tons thrust rocket propeller in the tail.
Once the sound barrier is broken, the former RAF pilot Andy Green lights on the rocket propeller to reach the 1000 mph.
To slow down the Thrust SSC 1000, 4 new big airbrakes will deploy acting as tail parachutes (which disappeared because of the rocket propeller) and carbon disk brakes will be used below 250 mph (400 km/h).

About this build:

The MB parts are : the nose, the engine intakes, the upper fin.
It's grey and yellow rather than all black for several reasons.
First and mainly, nose, intakes, fin parts and big Lego wheels are grey and don't come in black. According to the contest rules, painting is forbidden so...
A touch of yellow because all grey would be a little dull.

Sweet build, I love the shape, although a few more tiles would make it looks slightly more aerodynamic.
