Battlestar Galactica: Viper Launch!
The Battlestar Galactica has a total of 80 Launch Tubes for it's complement of Viper fighters, 40 in each flight pod. Each tube is 170 feet in length.
About this creation

Each Launch Tube is controlled by a Launch Supervisor who can observe the tube from a large viewport.
"Choker, this is Shooter, I have control--stand by."

After completing preliminary checks on the Viper, the Launch Supervisor presses the launch button, and a magnetic catapult throws the Viper out at great speed.

"Nav-con green...Interval check...Mag-cat ready"

The launch tubes are separated from the hangar deck by large airtight metal doors. When these doors close after the Viper is in the tube, the doors at the other end of the tube open up into space.

"Check door open. Thrust positive. Good hunting!"

Quoting Achintya Prasad Ha ha, I'm going into 9th grade; and I don't think Ingall Shipyards accept that young of engineers! I was referring to my model, though. Not exactly the same principle as in BSG (In BSG, it appears that the whole chamber basically turns into a railgun that fires out vipers), it instead pushes the shuttle, which is connected to the plane, via electromagnets, if I understood what I have seen so far.
Well, you never know! The BSG version still works like a catapult, just uses a magnetic force to push the front landing skid along the track. It also keeps the tube from filling with smoke. Have fun with your model!

Quoting Achintya Prasad So, these Vipers, are they launched from these tubes via magnets? If so, I just find that amazing. The carrier project I am building, the CVN-80, is designed with EMALs, or basically, a magnetic catapult! Its basically the same thing. Goes to show how far technology is going. Excellent build! A definite 5/5!
Thanks! Are you working on the real thing in Virginia? Here's a link to the BSG wiki http://en.battlestarwiki.org/wiki/Launch_tube_%28TRS%29

Quoting Marshall H Fantastic! This was my favorite place other than the viper cockpit. You always knew that a Cylon plot or encounter was going to happen. So much detail. :)
Thanks! One of those iconic set from both the new and the old show. I've recently revamped this rig to fit with the hangar deck, and I'll be launching a new ship soon. So stay tuned!

No no, not that complicated. It's BSG, not Star Trek. It's just a magnetic catapult. Thanks for checking it out! http://en.battlestarwiki.org/wiki/Launch_tube_(RDM)

Quoting Tom Simon As usual, great delivery, especially with the reduced viper coming out of the stud hole. But why, for efficiency's sake, would you not reuse the same tube to launch a second viper. Optimizing for latency of full launch is only worth so much resource, seems to me.
Well, I'm not sure if they have more than 40 Vipers anyway. After Pegasus is destroyed, I think they have more, but then they're short on pilots. But I don't see any reason not to re-use a tube. Thanks for the comment!
