Leviathan: The Stormwalker
I've FINALLY finished my Lego model of the Stormwalker (mech) from the book "Leviathan" by Scott Westerfeld.
About this creation

So I have finally completed it. It took a little bit more than a week to build and complete, and took a few extra days of gathering pieces and planning the structure.
Because the book didn't include any drawings of the insides of the Stormwalker, I had to use my imagination on that part, and details I gathered from the words. I really hope you enjoy the creations.

Because it was Thanksgiving vacation the days I worked on this, I had AMPLE time to work. I must have worked at least 8 full hours a day on this, but I can't be sure. I had two reference pictures taken from the interwebs and blown-up (made bigger) as well as the book, and it's bountiful resources.

Here's one side of the Stormwalker, I began on the legs first, and I think I did the best on them as well. After I built both the legs, I made the "bum" of the machine, then I had to branch the gap between those parts.

A shot of its rear.

A closer-up shot of the leg.

Another rear shot, just a little more head-on. Yes, that is a support in the back, but it's not to hold the thing up, it CAN do that on its own, it's simply there so that if it DOES decide to crumple, it would be a little more...supported. Better safe than sorry right?

Here are various shots of the parts of the leg...

A belly shot, a made an ingenious ladder of chains and droid arms (to drop from the belly hatch, more on that later), but I forgot to include it in the taking-of-pictures. :(

The "face".

The foot :D

Some details in between the knees of the legs and the rear...?

A close-up of the back.

Here's the top "dome" (hardly). Although it came out better than I was expecting, my dome looks really rough, almost rock-like. Maybe there's the perfect piece out there for this, but I just don't have it. That bird-like thing on the top is....well...I don't know, but it was there in the pictures.

The top comes off to access the above-deck, where you can fire the...

...Spandau machine guns! I struggled to get this picture of the entire unit and still have it come out fairly clear.

But that's not all, the whole front of the thing comes off so you can access the...hull? I'm not sure of the word for this space...maybe the cabin.

There's Hans Bauer at the controls, and __?__ Hoffman loading the cannon.

No, no, that's not all! The ENTIRE top of this thing can come off so you can fully explore the cabin!

Here it is without 'figs.

You see that hatch at the back?

This is what it looks like from the belly.

It opens quite nicely, but unluckily, while I was making this, I didn't think about where the person would stand while re-closing the hatch, so I guess anyone who wants to come in that way will be left hanging.

And this is how it looks opened from the belly.

Here's the crew, from left to right: Hoffman, Bauer, Klopp: the master of mechaniks (yeah, I tried to spell it that way), Prince Aleksander, and Volger: The wildcount.

And here are a couple extra characters, a rubber-enrobed mechanik of the "Tesla" cannon from "Behemoth" (the sequel) and Deryn Sharp, a midshipman aboard the Leviathan.

A had fun playing around with a few effects here.

Well, I guess that's the end of the presentation. I hope you enjoyed this, it took a lot of my time, as well as skill, to prep and finish. If you want to see some of Keith Thompson's art (who illustrated the book) here is his website, I'm pretty sure you'll be able to find some pictures of the Stormwalker somewhere in there.

So thanks for taking the time to check this out!

I really like this model. Such an accurate representation of the Stormwalker from the book. I am trying to create my own eight-legged walker inspired by the Herkules from 'Leviathan'.

Be nice if more people did walking fortress type mechae. Personally, I think this could stand to be taller, but it seems it's based on a book/comic series so eh.

Quoting Matt Gutierrez Nooo!! Looks like I was beaten to the punch! Today, my friend let me borrow the book, and when I saw the picture of the mech, I knew I had to make it. Looks like I can cross that project off my to do list. Great job!
I'd really like to see another builder's version of this mech, Tyler Halliwell is making one as well. I don't think you should cross that idea off yet.

I loved Leviathan, good Book. Haven't been able to read the second one yet. This looks like a really good representation of the Stormwalker, great job! I think the bird on top might be the crest or something or maybe just a fancy hood ornament.
