Vic Viper: Longhorn
When I was young I though I was really good at building space craft. I was wrong.
About this creation
In my constant quest to create a realistic and viable space craft for science fiction warfare, I came up with.... this Vic Viper. Spent about two hours fiddling with the bricks until I threw together one of the front panels and said "Oh, heck with it!" Though rather lightly armed with only two cannons, the Longhorn is a far more formidable craft than the viper I made last year. A little beefier, if you will forgive the pun, and a lot more swooshable.
Build Time: About 3 hours

Here is another terrible photo in the style of the classic Viper Shot. I really need to work on my photography skills....

Left side, complete with "foom" effects.
-Note: Radiation-
The fins do more than make it look cool, they also protect the pilot from harmful solar radiation and other debris or projectiles. Early tests without this simple rad protection proved to be - how to say it - crispy. Also, the fins were originally going to be placed a stud further down than they are now, gut I couldn't get the design to work out right.

Right side, looking much like the left.
-Note: Red Makes it Faster-
Early test versions of this craft were painted yellow, because it seems every prototype has to be some garish color. Flight tests when adorned with the traditional red paint job proved an increased maximum velocity of about 13 km per second, 10% more than the original craft, all with no change to the thruster mechanism!

These numbers mean something very important. I think.

Another thing I love about this thing is that I managed to fit a minifigure in without removing the arms or legs. I've always had issues with that.

Final shot with the pilot out and landing gear deployed. Told you Awesome.

Quoting James Dell Very nice. Do you have any idea when you will post the ship you have on Flickr?
Not sure, really. I need to generally de-ugly the thing, make some decent engines for it, and then get off of my bum to photograph, edit, and post it.

Quoting Mr. Xenomurphy Hi John, are you interested to join out team for the MOC Athalon? Right now it's me and Riccardo Zangelmi for sure. You'd be a cool addition to the team.
Thanks for the offer, but I've already accepted another invite. Best of luck finding another.

Actually, no, someone didn't. Thanks for your concern, but I threw that account together because Ian yes mad when I get all the credit.

I guess there's no design as epic as the Vic Viper, I've seen so many lego interpretations of it, and all looked awesome in their special way. So does this one.

WOW, pretty frikin' amazing. its funny how we all look back and remember when we were little and how we thought we were brilliant at building lego, and now i look back and think "... what a load of $*&@!"

Quoting Spencer Pearce Does the UNE use dark gray as a base color?
Any kind of grey; any kind of red.

I was wondering when you would finally post this! Anyways, the top/front-ish view is gorgeous but a little unappealing from the side. Replacing the top and back/side fins with something less complex would give the important parts - the cock-pit - more focus from the viewer's eye. And the front/side fins should be changed to match the beginning of the thrusters, otherwise the little exposed part of the thruster looks... awkward. I'm sure you could make the guns look look a bit more gun-ish. Some more pictures of the back and bottom would be much appreciated. -Thanks for letting me criticize! 5/5!

The cockpit looks complex to have built, and the back wings are awesome.

The ship is sweet, and despite your belief your photography isn't bad either. I can't tell, are you using artificial light in those shots? If so you could put paper in front of the bulb to help diffuse the light a bit. ~Thoy

Yeah, I have two fluorescent lamps that I use, to varying degrees of effectiveness. The paper's a good idea. Thanks!

Sweet! At Awe: Apparently, a Vic Viper has a specific shape, two wings on the side, a dorsal on the top, etc, etc. And I guess the others don't... anyway, great job here! =)
