HMS Barham 1/200 Scale Battleship
About this creation
The Queen Elizabeth class HMS Barham launched in 1914 and lost in 1941 to the German submarine U-331 while serving in the Mediterranean. The model is 1/200 scale which makes it approximately 39 inches long (about 123 studs long).

Unfortunately, I wasn't really able to get the forward superstructure quite right, and I never really liked my little Supermarine Walrus. A rather unique feature is that the barbettes (the cylindrical bases the 15 inch turrets are mounted upon) are actually sunk into the hull and the turrets themselves are not actually attached and are simply held in by gravity. I didn't get around to the pom-pom mounts or some of the other little features before I decided to pull it apart to build something else :)

As you can see at the top, I started working on making her full-hull, but ran out of red tiles less than halfway through. I think the torpedo bulges turned out great, pity I couldn't finish it!

Rough idea of the size of the ship.

Quoting Ben Fellowes Like it! Good to see some more Royal Navy ships about - I was considering using that flat-tile technique on some of my ships - now that I've seen yours, I'm sold on the method. I've got a 1/186 walrus design if that's any good to you - probably a tad big for your scale, but I'm sure it can be cut down...
Ben, thanks for the kind words! Your KGV actually inspired me to go with a smaller scale and a plated hull technique, and it's still one of my favorite models. I'm actually adding a new RN ship today (HMS Warrior), and I think my next ship will also be from the Royal Navy. The flat tile technique works very well, and I really enjoy the results it gives, though it can gives some serious headaches! I'll look into your Walrus, as my next ship will likely need one ;)
