About this creation
It's certainly been a long time since I've posted, but I think you'll agree it was worth the wait. After a couple weeks of deciding to wait 'til Black Friday to get that windshield, I've finally completed it! It was heavily inspired by the design of Larry Lars, whose design for the nose and canopy are only slightly modified for mine. The one thing I really wanted was to do the wings in SNOT. This gave me a clean look and a ton of possibilities for the gun housing. The first thing I did was build the wings, so I had a list of the things I wanted to have there. I wanted the snowspeeder to look very smooth yet angular, so I built it in SNOT. Then I added the greebles inside the top brake flaps to get some accurate detail in.

For the guns, one of the things I wanted for my T-47 was an accurate barrel diameter. All the other designs use a combination of the 1-brick-wide and 1-bar-wide diameters, completely ignoring the 1-stud-wide width. Using that width did give me the ridges on the barrels that I didn't really want, but I think it was worth it.

One of the things I knew I wanted to change from the norm of snowspeeder design was to do the cooling fins in the more accurate dk. bley and sloped angle. I was also really happy with how the lower air brakes turned out.

Head on shot. The guns are ever so slightly angled inward, even though because of perspective you can't tell in this photo. I couldn't angle them any more because the rear half is on a Technic pin and can't rotate, so then the gun would look bent. I settled for putting the rear half slightly more outward, to give the illusion of the angle.

I really wanted that single angle transition between wing and canopy, and that turned out well. I decided to use yellow classic Luke, because, quite honestly, it's the best Luke face out there. Unfortunately, I don't own a Dack minifig.

I love working features, so for this one I added one no one else has done for their T-47s (so far as I know at the time of writing): The maintenance panels that blow off when Luke crashes are removable, to expose the greebling underneath. Okay, so the greebling is just one grille. It was hard enough getting this feature in.

The harpoon cable can be extended and retracted, and it fires from the gun with the cable threaded through the radiator assembly, true to the snowspeeder in Ep.5.
Think that's it. MOCpages really messed up the quality of the pics, so you can see better ones on Flickr.
EDIT: Made Popular this Week.

WOW! This is the best snow speeder ive seen?
please! please! please! post some dissembled photos!?
That wouldn't be any fun, now would it? If you want to build it, Larry Lars has a cutaway of his and the rest is straightforward. Figuring it out is the fun part. |

Quite nice, sir. I like the little techniqe piece used at the rear of the cannons; great detail (thats a part that sticks out to me from the movie). Plus, a tow cable, opening canopy, and Luke and Dac...now all you need is an AT-AT! Nice work! |

Like I said on Eurobricks, this is fantastic!
Perfectly shaped, the details are right and all is executed very well. Great job! I wish TLC could atleast do a bit more effort for their snowspeeders, but it'd never be able to beat this. Probably the best snowspeeder I've seen. Great job, and keep it up. |

I love the accurate angles. The build looks a little cluttered to me, somehow, but I can't quite put my finger on any one detail. The details themselves are all great. |

My only beef would be there are no orange highlights on the wings...
Somehow I knew someone would bring that up... :-P
;-)
The Rogue Leader T-47 flown by Luke during the Battle of Hoth had dk. grey highlights, not orange. See here: http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/File:Rebel_Snowspeeder.jpg |

Wow, this knocked my socks off with the attention to detail. One of the oft-neglected craft of Star Wars universe, not to mention one of my favourites. Superb. |
