Checkmate
It's a bad day on Charibdis IX, and especially bad for old man Reynolds, because he lost at chess too! My entry for the "Get Some Perspective!" Contest.
About this creation
Sorry for the lame photoshop on the main picture, my camera couldn't focus on both the chessboard and foreground at the same time. It looks better in reality.

Overview of the diorama. The forced perspective has 2 levels, the microcity and micro Covenant ship above it, and the chess set.

Old man Reynolds, sitting at a table, with a giant chess set in the middle of a field and some very small buildings being glassed by a warship the size of a sailboat. Fun.

The Chess set. I was going to make a full set, but I don't have enough 1x1 tiles, and I would have had to make the diorama way longer to get the forced perspective right. I think this abridged version is still nice.

Main Street of Minitown. I'm quite pleased with how the buildings turned out.

And finally, the Covenant microship. I didn't really base it off of any official ships.

Thanks for viewing, let me know what you think!

O.K. Cody you have been after me to undertake a big project! Consider your wish fulfilled! In fact you don't need a MAGIC LAMP nor do you need a GENIE! I have provided both for you! My next undertaking in the "Storybook" category is...ALADDIN! And I had fun with it! I will start posting it either today or tomorrow! Or maybe both days! Also stop by my "Superhero" Stuff! Nick!

Score: 6 for the overall build. The little city and the chessboard are a nice touch, the patio and ship look like they could use a few more details. 7 points for the originality, I really like that main shot where the chess set looks like it's right on the table. Covenant cruiser is a little distracting but kinda cool at the same time. 4 points for construction, the microscape looks sweet but as stated the foreground needs more complexity. Overall I think this is a fun build, nice work on this mate. 17 points is my final tally.

Score: 6 for build, you worked on the chess set, micro city, and ship, all of which look good; 5 each for perspective originality and effectiveness. You got the basic idea of 2 things at different scales, and it creates a sense of depth. Could up the ante with either a 3rd item at a 3rd scale, or a continuous variation, like a gradually narrowing lawn towards the city. Good job in total. total score = 16

Ok, here’s my judging comment: 4 points for the overall build quality – average. 6 points for the originality of the forced perspective – I’ve seen the microcity idea before, but the chess set idea was fairly new (as far as I know) and to combine them into two separate levels of perspective was an excellent idea. 5 points for the construction of the forced perspective – nice job. Total score = 15 points.

Quoting El Barto ! The second shot is the best, I think. I'd be curious to see what it would look like cropped right to the edge of the dio. That might enhance the perspective effect, even if the ends of the ship and the plants got chopped. Well done!
Thanks for the advice, that's a really good idea.

As with Ethan, I'll judge later, but just wanted to pop in with a quick "looking good". Definitely the right idea with nice details. I also am not bothered by part being out of focus (which isn't even pronounced here), as that can add to the effect.

I really like that forced perspective! The ship hanging ominously in the background above the city reminds me of District 9. Nice work!

All of the combined perspectives on this build really look amazing! in fact, on the first picture, I thought the chess set was actually on the table =0

Wow! Rather than the usual techniques for making an object look larger and farther away, you've made an object look smaller and closer... brilliant and creative!
