UNSC Constellation -WIP-
UNSC Frigate CONSTELLATION -WIP-
About this creation

One of the smallest UNSC vessels fielded against the Covenant threat, the UNSC Frigate is underpowered, under gunned, and lacks sufficient armor to repel a Covenant attack. Only En Masse can the Frigate deliver the firepower necessary to inflict any real damage. Scale for this bad boy is 1:939 (approximately).

-060912- Well it's been a million years since I last updated this page, and A LOT has changed in the interim. There's new engine designs, a new support frame made out of steel, and some new ideas for turrets and color schemes. It seems that at least once a day I am making progress, only to once again tear it apart. *GULP* I'm also getting close to the point where I need to flip the ventral portion (by far the largest single section) over to accommodate the engine housings that I am now working on. I have also come to terms with the fact that Halo's frigates are BLOCKY creatures, AND, EVERY FRIGATE IS DIFFERENT. So, I have taken more artistic liberties on the engine cowlings and mounts, to give them an updated, sleeker look (and so I can work in some exposed hoses and plumbing... these pics are forthcoming C: ).

To address the change in support and final construction: Kelso again came to there rescue with a small tip in one of his Eye of Chaos entries. Instead of using a technic system to attach the halves of this SHIP, I am now using small 1x2 plate hinges to loosely secure the halves for display (No pics right now, not only does the camera suck, I just haven'y implemented this change yet-WIP-). The steel frame was also loosely inspired by the Eye of Chaos, but more so from the many Master Builder events I have attended. If you haven't been to one, they are amazing amounts of fun, all while surrounded by a pile of Brick! The massive models built at the events utilize (in most cases) a steel inner frame to support the height and bulk of the build. I turned this design sideways so that a steel beam runs the length of the ship, with a vertical attachment running through the cargo bay(this is where the base with insert for display). So enough talking, here are a few crappy photos (and I promise to upload better quality soon) of what I've been procrastinating on for several months.

-040911- Have been working a lot on a new technic girder system for the interior of the frigate. I've been really busy with work and school, but I may be able to post some new pictures during my spring break.

Having toiled all day over this beast, I have realized that I need a better looking scale pelican and longsword. (I am designing port and starboard hangars) and I may need to go home and rethink my life *Jedi hand wave* My biggest conundrum is putting the separate pieces together, while still being able to complete the wings that connect the engine pods to the main fuselage. with a planned total width of nearly two feet, it's a tall order. My design for keeping studs facing both up and down does NOT help (and in every other direction, for the record). the ship has a trench similar to the death star's running around a good portion of the "equator. while it doesn't impair the visual aspect of the ship, it does mean I need to build to separate hemispheres and then smash them together (AGH!). weight is an issue now too. each segment weights at least 5 lbs, and if I remove brick to lighten it up, the whole things droops down and to the left (perhaps Mark Kelso would be so kind as to shoot me some tips).

main engine prototype.

Finally, some more crummy pictures for you to squint at. I really do apologize. my iPhone camera just doesn't cut the mustard for these pics.

Thought I would post a quick update before heading to work. I have finished about 80% of the forward section of the ship. Only minor details left. Started working on the left and right missile silos/hangar bays. Also working on the "Trapezoid" or the cargo/storage/garage portion of the ship (I think the barracks are there too, but I am not sure). here's a picture from the left with the lights on. I guess I am about halfway done with the entire build. sorry for the blurry picture.

here we have a nice shot of my dirty counter, cluttered with a mountain of crap. Err, LEGO.

An example of what this thing will look like when it's lit up. I plan to put lights in as many places as possible.

Quoting Arbiter Bri dionne HOLY CRAP. if only i could give this a 100/5 without modding my pc...
Thanks!! So, for those just checking this build out... It's a dead project. Catastrophe struck in my new apartment, and it toppled from the display stand. I have a few parts salvaged, but after such a disaster, I've taken a nearly year long break from the Brick. I'm getting the itch to build again, but I don't think I will ever revive the UNSC Constellation... unless you want me to. If there's interest in seeing this build completed, please leave a comment!! :)

Quoting adam kallibjian omg!!!!! great job big and massive although 1 thing you might want to check out is i think the cargo bay is not that long down but still amazing so far
Adam, thanks for the comment. I have been thinking about it too; I've uploaded pics for the completed cargo bay, tell me what you think. I know I have to go back and revise a couple parts (kill me now please) but I thought it would be good to update before I do that.

Wow. This is amazing, if i had the time and parts, i'd be doing the same thing... Awesome job with the lights and SNOTing this will likely be the best Frigate on mocpages. (thanks for the comment, you should've checked out the V2 though, the update was a bit... 'mushy')

Quoting Darren D. Thanks for the comment. And when you get back to making it, because doing it in a single color is just about impossible, make sure that when you add light grey (or any other similar color for that matter) that you try and avoid patterns. Try to spread out the other colors but desperately avoid patterns. Also would you happen to have an expected date for like the finished project OR a new WIP installment? Cos I'd like to see this finished.
I should have another installment at the end of this week, perhaps as a new years gift to MOCpages. I am going to match the ingame frigate's color scheme as much as possible. i really like those 1x2 bricks with the ridges, they make a good "random" texture. Any ideas on how to build a SNOT UNSC logo? I am trying a lot of different things, but nothing gets me quite where I want it to be. The local LEGO club (BAYLUG) has a convention at the end of march, which I would love to take this too. I am shooting for a completion date in mid to end of February, but we'll see.

This is coming along very nicely. I have a couple of Frigates, though not nearly as big as yours. Check em out when you have the time. And This would be very good when you finish it. Keep it up!

Sorry man, it's no LDD file. This will be built with real LEGO. The pics posted are my main reference pics, as well as floating around Halo:Reach in Theater Mode. total build length is an estimated three feet though. thus far, parts have cost me somewhere around $145.
