Colony: Episode 1
Arrival on a new planet...
About this creation
Day 1 of the New Era. Once again, we need to fly away from our colony. The two suns of our binary system are about to collapse and we must find a new home planet. Unfortunately, this cataclysm had not been predicted by our scientists and we did not have enough time to prepare this new exodus... Once more, we are lost in the deep space.

Day 275. We are heading for a giant gas cloud in which our scanners have detected at least one planet on which we could build our new colony. Let's hope this time the scientists have correctly interpreted the measures !

"Gosh ! This food is really bad. And I don't even want to know from what it has been synthesized ! Let's hope we can find a steak on this planet..."

Day 307. Here we are ! This famous planet looks indeed promising, although the thick layer of clouds does not allow the scanners to probe the surface. Therefore, we are now going to land on it.

Strangely, although the clouds looked blue from above, the sky looks reddish from the surface ! At least the atmosphere contains enough oxygen for us, and there is no trace of toxic gas.

The last Heavy Transport Spaceship is now landing. We did not detect any life form during our descent but we have decided to land in the middle of a desert so that we can easily spot any approaching object. The visibility is reduced due to a strong wind combined to a dusty ground but our scanners operate correctly.

Red Prince: Commander Kirk ?
Commander Kirk: Yes Sir !
R.P.: Start to assemble the base and to explore the area. According to the scientists, these rocks have enough chemical components to synthesize water and food, but I would prefer some real food !
C.K.: Yes Sir ! We will start right away, Sir !
R.P.: And bring me something to drink, it's very hot with this helmet...
C.K.: Sure Sir !

Day 310. North of the desert where we landed are some mountains. We have been exploring them for a few days and we found some traces of vegetation. No animal-like life form so far, but we are still searching these valleys.

To be continued...

Behind the scenes

The spaceships seen in the above pictures are: the Red Prince's cruiser, the Heavy Transport Spaceship and the YF-110. Thanks to the GIMP, I could clone them, but, in real life, there is/was only one of each, and the bricks from the Cruiser come from the HTS !

The background pictures come from the NASA images archive, and the ground seen on pictures #5 to 7 is the actual martian ground ! The last picture background is from the Atlas mountains in north Africa.

Don't expect to see the next episode soon as I needed a few months to make this one...

But, if you liked it, please rate and comment ! Thanks for your visit.

Quoting Crimso Giger Eh ben Chapeau David !

Quoting Dennis Price You have laid the foundation for an epic here. Just enough unanswered questions at this point to keep us wanting more, some really nice builds that make me want to return to some Classic Space building, and great photography/photo editing too.
Thanks a lot !

Quoting El Barto ! Great series of pics, Dude! Especially those sandy ones on what looks like carpet, that's a tough thing to do. Well done!
Thanks ! Yes it is really a carpet, I was not sure I would not replace it completely with a background but I found it nice to leave it like that...

Thanks for your comment. But, this is no Photoshop: I used the GIMP (GNU Image Manipulation Program), which is a free software...
