My Lego Technic Crane 8421 and the changes I have made..
About this creation
After purchasing this Lego set, I started to modify it.
First thing you will notice from the opening photo is that the cable is fluoro yellow and not black. The cable that I got was frayed and not in good condition, so I used bricklayers line for the cabling.
Firstly I added the blue air tank from my submarine set and the yellow protector bars as well. The reason for this is that after a period of time, the arm would come done due to there not being enough air presssure to keep the piston extended. You can see the blue tube weaving it's way to the switch
From this view you can see the customised crane driver's box, the hubcaps put on the wheels and the additional orange safety lights placed on the ends of the stablising feet. Note, the seat is exactly the same as it is in the original instructions, I modified the box to fit the Lego Technic man in.
Another view of the air tank on the back, you can see with the arm extended the yellow cable wire
This one shows you more detail about with the tank and protector bars
This is a top view of the driver's box with a control panel and the controls off the sides of the seat
I added an exhaust to the truck..
Tried to make the motor look slightly realistic..
Happy to pose for a photo....
Front view of the crane truck, as I live in Australia, I converted this to right hand drive, quite simple to do. This does look better with people in it..
