The Black Sun Empire's deadly take on the Corellian Corvette.
About this creation
Hi all,
Finished on the last day of 2010 and posted on the first day of 2011, here's a happy-new-year MOC for y'all.
So far this christmas holiday I'd finished one big car, one Star Wars model, and now here's my contribution to my other big category, the Black Sun Empire.
This is so far the biggest vessel I've built for the Black Sun Empire, and so far the biggest spaceship of all of my models on MOCpages - possibly not of all time, as when I was young I used to enjoy sticking all my baseplates together to try and make the biggest possible ship I could - I seem to remember one which vaguely resembled a star destroyer which may have been a fair bit bigger than this (though probably much less well done).
So anyway, here it is - the BS100 Black Sun Corvette. The BSE's rendering of the well-known Corellian Corvette. It's not supposed to be an exact copy, in black; or even a modified Corvette; just a ship heavily inspired by it, with the same sort of role on the battlefield. This is a proper warship - heavily enough armed to fend off snubfighters and, in small numbers, dangerous enough to pose a real threat to capital ships.
Unlike most of my spaceships to far, the outside scale on this is very different to the inside scale - the outside would be the same size roughly as a Corellian Corvette, but the inside is minifig scale as I enjoy making interiors.
As a picture says a thousand words, and the ships is fairly big, I've taken a lot of photos to show the outside detail and interior.
On the outside the ship is heavily armed, with four rotating double turbolasers on the top and four rotating proton torpedo launchers underneath. The front section is packed with weaponry above and below; whilst on each side of the rear section are big powerful twin turbolaser cannons. This ship is not to be messed with - especially considering the powerful shields and engines.
On the inside, the cockpit is manned by the commander and two navigators/pilots, dealing with the panoramic computer displays. Behind them, the hallway, with the loading ramp and some heavy blasters propped against a window.
The next room on is the big main room, with the galaxy map/computer console in the center, visible to all; big side windows, and various facilities for the crew, such as food, and a repair bench. After this, we have a small corridor lined with weapons racks and equipment storage boxes - though primarily a space-based warship, there's nothing stopping the Black Sun Corvette from being used in more difficult troop transport and commando missions, where enemy fire may be too dangerous for smaller ships. Lastly, at the end, we come to the engine room, taken care of by an engineer and a droid adept in maintenance skills.
My little brother and a friend joined in on making this, so it's only fair to say it's not entirely my own work.
For the rest, I'll let you judge by the photos... I hope you like it :)
- Dan

This looks like it would make a good play set. I like the curved parts you used for the bow. Your greeble work is good too. It strikes me that you may get a more slick look by using SNOT techniques for the top to avoid large sections of exposed studs. |

I am not familiar with Black Son but this is stunning. The details are amazing. What a great way to spend the christmas break. I swear black lego attracts more dust but its my fav. Thanks for your comments on my F40 really appreciate it.
Thanks :)
Black Sun is in Star Wars, not the films though. My black sun empire models have nothing concrete to do with the star wars one - it's just based on the idea and inspired by it, all my ships have been made up, tough this one's shape based off of the corvette in star wars.
Hopefully I'll get some more stuff done over summer when I get back home... I've got some cool cars and spaceships planned :)

Hey thats awesome How long did it take to build? sorry I am at a loss for words seeing this awesome creation!
Thanks a lot, I'm glad you like it :)
It took under a week to build, going methodically from planning the shape and general layout, to building the floor and main walls, then working on the outside, and lastly the interior, which my little brother and a friend helped design.

Big beast of thing mate! I noticed you joined our spin off grop, but having read Mike's comment, I have just posted the link to the general GAIA group, where your stuff would totally fit in, althought this one would actually fit in to the lost worlds group even more so! http://www.mocpages.com/group.php/2893
Cheers Dan the Man...
Thanks :)
After joining I had a good look at the description, and saw it was mainly space police... I didn't want to spam your group with other models which is why I hadn't added anything yet. I'll check out the other one though :)

I applaud the fact that you have that many black bricks to even build a ship this size in the first place! I do have to agree that the bridge needs some windows or something to finish it off but I get what you trying to accomplish with the curved look. Might I suggest you check out Parrington Levens G.A.I.A group. I think you would like what you see there and I'm sure he would appreciate your talents as well.
Thanks, I will check it out :)
I did of course want to fill in the area around the cockpit, the only reason I didn't is simply because I didn't have the parts to :(
And Marin, to answer your question, I got the globe halves to stick together with green plasticine... I know that's cheating but it's the on;y way I could come up with that didn't involve anything blasphemous like glue...

Very original idea, design, and color scheme! Love the curved parts you used for the cockpit and the inner details. My only suggestion would be to try and enclose the cockpit with curved bricks, trans parts, etc. so it doesn't look like everyone in the cockpit will get sucked out into space:) |
