The Merlion - a special gift created for the LEGO CEO from S0937FG.
About this creation
On 26 November 2006, our group, S0937FG, had the wonderful opportunity to meet up with the LEGO CEO, Mr Jørgen Vig Knudstorp in person and had dinner with him.
The meeting was arranged by Diana, our group's LEGO Ambassador and the dinner was hosted by LEGO Singapore.
During Brickfest 2006, Diana shared some concerns in Asia in the Q&A session and Jorgen then responded by "an invitation" to meet the group in Singapore during his trip in November 2006.
In anticipation of the meeting, the group then decided to work on a project to create something that can represent Singapore and unique to the world. After many discussion online, we decided to create the Singapore Merlion. Nicholas Foo (blackbulb) was then tasked to work on the design.
This project took us about 1.5 months. There was various design change cycles as the design was done using MLCAD. Thereafter bricks was ordered and the Merlion was then put together with some modifications.
This very special scuplture has 857 LEGO elements. Accompanying the Merlion is the S0937FG Minifig (made by Leroy) holding the Singapore Flag. The whole scuplture was then placed in a acrylic box with a wooden stand (hand-made by Eugene Tan).
The Merlion was then presented to Jorgen in a mystery box, all wrapped up, after a little presentation Diana did before the dinner.
Jorgen actually said this when he saw the Merlion..., "I have never received anything like this before, especially when it is specially created for me ..."
We were all very happy and all the effort the group has put in for the Merlion has paid off.
We had a very exciting evening talking about LEGO, the company, future directions, and more LEGO . We also shared our concerns relating to the Asia market and made some suggestions along the way. Jorgen LISTENED to us and took down notes along the way.
Aren't we glad that the LEGO Company is managed by a CEO that has passion for LEGO?
The following group members contributed to the project in one way or another :
1. Diana (dvirus)
2. Nicholas (blackbulb)
3. Eugene (eugenetan)
4. Steven (medwav)
5. Leroy (joeroy)
6. Edwin (edwinchiam)

Wow, great statues! |

Switching from Kid Development to Entertainment strategy, Jørgen Vig Knudstorp kills the company. Shareholders must replace Mr.Knudstorp as much as possible if they wish to save Lego !!! Otherwise we will see just another stylized video-game maker. It is time to call Strivan Lab - strategies for Digital Age. |

This is very cool. What a cool thing to get to have dinner with Jorgen! My only complaint is the background in the pics. The white makes it hard to see the Merlion. |
